CPS needed to borrow money to make a pension payment...part of the deal being $200M in layoffs. There is not enough revenue coming in to run many of our school systems. Which school in town do we shut down next?

Or, and perhaps just consider it, we start running our schools like we have to run our businesses.
But then accountability would be shown, and you can't have that where the rules run the process.

Some of these practices would be welcome. The problem with your accountability issue is the fact that your "product" (student's learning) has too many factors to consider to reach a valid conclusion about the quality of instruction received. It's much more than just statistical analysis. Please take into account that for the most part, ability grouping is ignored for the sake of political correctness. How can you evaluate a teacher based on performance when you have classes with students that have a really wide range of skill sets and IQ? Teachers have to dumb things waaaaaaay down in these PC class groupings.

Guess they should have thought ahead when negotiating those pensions in the past

Guess they should have thought ahead when negotiating those pensions in the past This lotto-winning pension system has been a racket from the start. In this state unions ran amuck...the teacher unions still do. None of the Big Boys want to come here. We're gonna' see State Farm and Mitsubishi pull out in the future.

We may see more lay offs from state workers and maybe some strikes before those politicians (Bozos) can get this worked out.

You can show ZERO correlation between the money spent and the quality of the education. Mostly you have to quit d**n whining and make the students LEARN. Some are just d**n dummies that will get left behind, no matter how "pure" your intention are. Now we kill the good ones to make the idiots feel better about themselves, and in the meanwhile spend a ton of cash we don't have.

I agree, but we're talking about just keeping the doors open and the lights on...nuthin' else right now. Huh? This isn't possible.
This isn't an educational Bataan Death March, snipe.
You're right here...PC rules.

Which school in town do we shut down next? Let's start with balancing the budget. Once the governor gets that ironed out then he can work on the school system. The states messed up and the problem is much bigger than the school systems.

We may see more lay offs from state workers and maybe some strikes before those politicians (Bozos) can get this worked out. There is no money...what is it about this statement that you don't understand? The governor and Big Mike are circling each other in order to get political punches in. There isn't enough state revenue coming in to fix our state's multiple fiscal problems. The idea of cutting programs and laying off workers is an emotional response to this crisis which will cause enormous problems. Tax goods and services across the board. The alternative option is totally undesirable to everyone...no state services, mass layoffs, closed schools, ad nauseum... Would shutting all state sponsored offices, programs, and roadwork construction get your attention?
