LA did the Same thing and Guess what the Labor Unions are doing there after seeing what happened in Seattle. They are going BEFORE the LA City Council and asking for an EXCEPTION for anyplace they Represent from that 15 an hour MINIMUM. Why what is good for Wal-Mart and other Stores should be Good for their UNION MEMBERS.

So the Unions are asking to exempt their members from higher wages? It's kind of too bad. Unions are supposed to get better wages, conditions and benefits for the workers they represent. If what you say is true, it would appear as if they know it will mean fewer jobs and they are just wanting to keep due paying membership UP. Sometimes there is a conflict of interest in what is good for the membership and what is good for the Union bosses. Too bad that all too often the 'powers that be' act out of self-interest instead of the interests of those they are paid or elected to safe guard. Some locals keep the employees' interest on the front burner. Other locals will sell out their employees if it benefits the union. I say "locals" because that is where the action is for most employees. To say one is represented by the Teamsters is meaningless if you do not know which local is involved. One of my best friends was a union leader in an Auto Workers' union (UAW). His local was worthless. If he had worked two miles to the north, he would have been in a really good UAW local.

I worked at the Mitsubishi plant in Normal that had UAW representation. I doubt it was much of anything like all the stories you hear about Detroit UAW plants. Our place had 2 grades of workers. Production Associates and Maintenance. Production Associates may have been working trim and final hopping in and out of cars, chassis doing overhead torques with some huge wrenches(lots of shoulders torn up down there), body shop doing lots of spot welds and loading fixtures,(lots of carpal tunnel down there) paint shop, or driving a fork lift or performing final quality checks. It all paid the same and really no division of labor saying you are a 'qualified worker' with different labor grades. Surgeons and Attorneys both loved us Autoworkers, kept the money flowing for them. The company was allowed a lot of flexibility. I think we were way behind the wages and benefits the Big 3 paid as well. We still had good pay and benefits, no complaints there. I would have hated to pay that kind of payroll, that's for sure. Anyway, yeah, all autoworkers, all represented by the same union, but far different pay and working conditions. I heard that complaint years ago from some young people that worked for Kroger's. They belonged to a Union and paid Monthly dues, but worked far less than 40 hours/week. FAR less, perhaps just 10 or 12 and yet the Union dues took a huge share of what they made. So true about Kroger, my daughter worked there for almost a year, she averaged 10-15 hours a week, one week when union dues were deducted her paycheck was a whopping $1.49. I have always been the parent that has told my kids to put their big kid panties up and deal with the BS that comes with any job, but this one not so much, after her leaving for work crying for a week then calling me from the bathroom hysterical because after submitting the required form asking for a certain time off for an orthodontist appt., not asking for the day off, just saying I can work until 1 or after 4 they scheduled her from 12-5, when she asked they told her to be there or lose her job, I told her to tell them to stick the job "you know where". When she gave her notice she was told to get her stuff and just get out. No one deserves to be treated that way adults or teens.

To me, that is more of a bad Kroger problem than the union. Terrible way to treat a young person! I had to pay a = of one week's paycheck to the Laborer's Union in order to work construction here for three months every summer, so I could to earn money to continue in college. (Job only paid a bit over min. wage.)

Boy did McDonalds ever raised there prices.....wow. Guess that $15.00 dollars an hour is a threat to all. When you are introduced to the working field you start at the bottom like WE ALL DID! and if you are older and work there, you have to ask yourself..... why Am I working here? if a person has no skills then you need to get some or go to higher learning. I think most take the easy way out and want to do as little as possible. jmo

McDonald's was in the news lastnite . there are going to close most of there restaurants across the U.S. due to newer restraunts and trouble competing. real reason IMO is due to wage hikes. And employees pushing for $15 Hr. So say goodbye to McDonald's in this country . And to the employees that made themselves unemployed by pushing for high wages www.foxnews.com/leisure/2015/06/18/mcdonald-to-shrink-in-us-for-1st-time-in-40-years/

"In April, McDonald's said it would close about 700 underperforming locations around the WORLD this year"
ROCKET, 700, around the WORLD, is not MOST of the restaurants across the u.s.
I bet there's more than that in Illinois alone. Hell, there's one on every corner in the bigger cities. Lol

Ok, I was curious.
There are 340 McDonald's in CHICAGO.
There are over 4,500 in Illinois. Alone.

"pruning the tree". While, the article, said, they were closing the worse stores, it is also building more. Those CEO want to make sure, their bonuses will be there for them.

McDonald's: McDonald's Increases Size of the Quarter Pounder Burger, Reports Say The company switched their quarter pounder by increasing the amount of beef by .25 ounces, reports say. The size follows a reported spike in beef prices. McDonald's has not elaborated on the change.
