After reading all of the comments, I had a chance to see what brought on all the controversy. I thought they looked rather neat. Drawing some harmless artsy attention to our downtown isn't necessarily a bad thing. I didn't read too much into the meaning of it all.

'harmless artsy attention'. It,is kinda, out of the box, but I, like it.

Post by Kyle Mitchell on May 4, 2015 8:22:35 GMT -6
I thought that I already stated what they are supposed to signify, but I'll be happy to explain again. The Mayor said that he would like to see more artwork downtown. The pigs signify that I am working WITH our City leaders doing as they suggest, similar to when I read their Comprehensive Plan many years ago suggesting that people live above downtown storefronts. They are a sculpture titled "Anything's Possible", signifying that Streator could again become a more vibrant community, with increasing population and property values and more businesses, buildings being maintained, shoppers, etc. It is an acknowledgment that Streator is changing. After over seven years of my asking that they start doing more to solve some of the problems, stating that they were considering raising liquor license fees to cover the costs of extra enforcement needed because of the bars, is the first real acknowledgment of these problems and some type of solution from our City that I have ever heard. We now have a public drunkenness ordinance and they are talking about adding video surveillance downtown as well. They changed an unreasonable ordinance making sidewalk sales illegal without a Special Use Permit, and although dragging their feet, I believe that they will change their ridiculous snow removal ordinance that makes business owner be subjected to daily fines. I believe there is a change in attitude at City Hall and that now a lot more could be possible here. Do you really think that my acknowledging that I believe they are making positive changes will pi$$ them off? When I added a four foot fence to my building, they came threatening me with a fine for not getting a permit for it, even though a four foot high fence doesn't require a permit and any building inspector should know that. When I got laying hens which were absolutely allowed by our ordinances, they held a Special Meeting to try to outlaw them and seeing me there, didn't even allow public comment. This week, I didn't see any Special Meeting to outlaw flying pig artwork and received no threats of fines. I had sent them an e-mail with information on the sculpture on Wednesday morning when displaying it and made sure they had my contact info. Chief Risley gave me a friendly call on Thursday and came by yesterday to see how they were mounted and make sure they are safe. He didn't seem pi$$ed at all. He said that he didn't have any problem with my pigs and indicated that it was a citizen concern that they were acting on. It seems to me that maybe they are handling things differently now. Anything's Possible, isn't it? The sculpture is to signify that there are many possibilities here; that if people take the chance, anything could be possible. It is supposed to signify hope and inspiration. The Kinetic sculpture also signifies that we have quite an abundance of a clean renewable energy source in the area that promotes the sustainability of our planet. I hope that helps explain the significance of my artwork better for you, but I have a feeling that you will still be perplexed. I don't see why it should pi$$ people off. It's not like I solicited $130,000.00 in donations from the public to save a theatre and then boarded the place up, like your close family friend, right? Gone off the deep end? As in crazy, insane, mentally ill? That has already been established on here many times. I'm also an uneducated moron and many other names and claims. Yes, I'm way off the deep end, too far gone to save, so there is no sense in even trying. You think my artwork is stupid, Thank You! I'm happy that you didn't hold back and gave your true feelings. Coming from someone like you, I'll take that as a compliment. In addition to working WITH the City, sharing my artwork with others, and sending a positive message, perplexing people like you is also what I was trying to accomplish. I think I accomplished it well, didn't I? BLAH BLAH BLAH....you know as well as everyone else what these flying PIGS do signify, and as to why you put them up there. Keep back-talking your true reasons here KYLE, just like the chickens, and your gay-ly painted building, c'mon, really? You HARBOR a huge chip on your shoulder since way back when ....when TIM from the Majestic got RID of you, and YOU know that !!! That's why you're so fixated on the whole situation, and AGAIN...you know that!! So...let's talk about YOU then, since you being an import can clearly attack those of us who do truly love this town, eh? You took the time to "create" PIGS, flying pigs at that, with a PIG's A$$ sticking out of the front of your building....what ARE you doing about your building / business, btw? Is that ever going to open back up again, or do you just plan on adding more CRAP to the outside of it, to what "enhance" and therefore beautify the downtown district? We ALL know your BEEF here with the City, the Police, Carbos, the Majestic.........uhmmmm ETC.? WHAT'S NEXT? M I'm not back-talking. I stand behind what I say. Many times I've expressed my optimism that Streator could be much more if they did things differently. I think that they have started trying to do things differently and with more of the right changes Anything Could Be Possible! I certainly could have used my campaign to be much more negative, talking about laws not being followed and enforced, couldn't I? I did intend it to be a positive message of hope and inspiration, but I do see how some people could see a different message from it. My detractors/attackers and those who don't want the changes that I have asked for for many years could just see it as me putting a pig's a$$ in their face, but I don't really see how people who didn't already have an attitude against me should have any problem with it. I've received a lot of compliments on them. Thank You everyone. Did Tim get RID of me? I'm still here. He was the one who hid his face when he came to town afterwards. He didn't seem proud enough of what he had done to even face my family. We still hold our heads high on Vermillion Street. Doesn't it seem that the only thing your dear family friend is getting RID of is the Majestic theatre and the public's $130,000.00 in donations to save it? Is it even any of your business what I am going to do with my building? Really? It's not like I solicited and took $130,000.00 in donations from the public promising to "Save" my building, like your dear family friend, is it? It is my money invested into my building and none of your business what I do with it, isn't it? Shouldn't I be asking you what you are going to do about your dear family friend ripping off the community, instead of you worrying about my private investments into the community? Yes, WHAT IS NEXT? Won't that be very interesting to see?

He just hates being ignored. g Nonsensical, is that what sniper said? gee greek, aren't you the one throwing a little fit when I didn't answer your comments in their "entity" quick enough? Didn't you notice that I didn't really care that you couldn't answer the one simple question that I asked of you and ignoredhid from it? Isn't it nice to have some positive thirst around? Would you rather we be talking about the attention that drunken street brawls, public urination, unsolved murders, shootouts, robberies, arson, etc. bring to our community?

if the flying pigs are ok with the city codes then so be it. I smiled when I looked up and saw them. I checked prior for flying pig artwork restrictions in the ordinances. The Mayor did say that he would like to see more artwork downtown. Is there really any reason for anyone (who didn't already have an attitude against me) to be at all upset with it?
