If you would read my post you would have seen I Graduated in 1988 the LAST Class of SES 45 aka the one BEFORE the Merger with the Eagle School District. My Parents where Bombarded with Newspaper Reports of what was going to be taken away by the BOE if they did not vote for the Merger and the Tax Increase at that time. Things like Band Sports the Art Programs and other things kids where DOING at school plus they where told the State would wipe out the Debt that the School Owed everyone something like 4.5 MILLION dollars. So even my parents that hated the prospect of a tax increase but knew that it was either this or see the school decimated voted FOR it.
Now roughly 30 years later we are facing the SAME issues that we as a TOWN faced then called a school board that refuses to EVER tell the Teachers NO. They have not ONCE in the time I have lived here close to 40 years told the TEACHERS NO neither BOE has. Is it no WONDER WHY the Taxpayers of these 2 Districts are fed up with everyone that runs the Schools. At least when I was in the School District it felt like we got something for the Money we spent on the Registration. I was at the madhouse at the KofC this last year when a Parent registered her 3 kids and went well this 450 Bucks is WASTED, I went why she goes they get next to nothing for the money they felt.

I was about to turn in my petition for the board when I was given the bad NEWS. I was getting ready to be on the BOE making the very hard choices and being one of the few in this town with a SPINE to tell the Teachers to suck eggs this year if they want any raises and to force them to pay MORE for their INSURANCE. Let's go after those stinkin overpaid underworked teachers ! I have an idea, share with us how much you pay for your medicaid or IDPA insurance and we will demand the school board negotiate the same amount for the next contract. We need the exact amount, not the amount of office visit copay but rather the monthly premiums you pay. Is it individual or family coverage ? It's about time the taxpayer grew a spine !

The ONE and ONLY reason I get IDPA for family is due to a law that was passed in the 70's that states that any Disabled State Resident with KIDS is automatically ENTITLED to Medicaid therefore making sure their Kids and themselves are COVERED. If you think I like being on it Waldo take a long walk in Lake Michigan wearing an Anchor.
If you want to live my life Take it I would gladly take what I used to do Freaking back in a Heartbeat. You try being afraid to walk not knowing if your legs are going to give out and cause you to fall to the ground. You try having a brain that for FUN will cause all your muscles to go out of control and when your done your spitting up blood and chunks of your tongue and feel like you just ran 40 miles. Then for fun throw in a heart that needs a Battery to keep going and for even MORE freaking fun you have been told by multiple Docs that sooner or later the BOMB that is in your brain aka a weakened blood vessel is going to blow and there is NOTHING that anyone can do to stop it. So if you want that you can HAVE IT. Until then I will keep raising HELL about how this Towns BOE's and City Council refuses to admit that they both have a Major Spending issue and if I am here in 2018 and can get a Clearance from my Doc look out I am going to be running for 2 things one is a Seat on the SES board the other is MAYOR of this place and I will clean this town up or DIE TRYING.

Registration for 3 kids should have been about $300.
The high school district has SES, Grand Ridge, Ransom/Otter Creek districts that feed into them. SES and SHS residents would have one blended tax rate. The others would have a higher rate. Those other feeder districts have to approve a consolidation of our 2 districts. The state doesn't make it easy. A simple way would be to say that SES would expand to the SHS borders and have one rate and the others would continue to pay what they do now. Then you have 1 supt, 1 Asst, and eliminate about 5 positions. The next hurdle is a contract with employees. Do you pay them under current contracts, pay them either the high school or elem wages meaning either one group gets a huge raise or one gets a big drop. Or do you negotiate a new contract?

And how many of the union teachers or union workers in general you despise don't dutifully pay their taxes every week without complaining or questioning if you are or are not eligible to receive your entitlements ? I would bet most of them. Who do you think more than likely lobbied to get coverage for you and your kids ? A safe bet would be the unions had some involvement in it. Didn't anybody every teach you not to throw rocks if you live in a glass house ? You could very well get a dose of the programs and policies you wish for some day, and just might not like the results.

She also was complaining about the other Fees namely the PE Uniforms the Towel Fees the Other FEES that the District has come up with in the last 20 years so the TEACHERS can get those massive Raises. Tell me this FOT when your Payroll for the District for FY 14 according to the Audit of the books for just the Teachers and ADMINS came to just about 15 MILLION for their Wages and Benefits how in the HELL can you say the Board has cut everything down ESPECIALLY BENEFITS. Your Cooks Lunch Ladies wages and Benefits are 675 THOUSAND see a slight Bit of Difference there anyone.
Why does Woodland have such a Tight Fist on their Budget simple they have a BOE with a Set of BIG BRASS BALLS. Anyone remember when it was discovered a few years ago that the Teachers where Overpaid out at Woodland. The Teachers out there wanted to KEEP THE MONEY. The BOE said either RETURN OUR MONEY OR BE FIRED. They where willing to FIRE EVERY SINGLE TEACHER that had been Overpaid. They even made the Super REPAY out of his Pension his amount he had been overpaid. How did they do this by REFUSING to give in to the Teachers Union.

On a pay scale elementary districts are the low end then consolidated then high school districts on the high end.
Woodland did get their money back because its the law. They were overpaid and had to pay it back. The union fought to make sure the amounts were correct and to set a schedule for repayment. Wages and benefits have to be negotiated. We can't just say here it is, you're doing this. We've tried in the past and had talks of strikes. We gave in and settled. I wish we hadn't. If you remember, 3 years ago I said this was a bad contract. As a member of the negotiating team then I had to support my fellow board members on the reccomendation to pass.
Moving forward the board and union are working together to get us through this tough time. They are negotiating a new contract. Hopefully things work out. We shall see.

You had the Chance 3 years ago to Stand up to the UNION and as Usual in this town the BOE took the Easy way OUT they GAVE IN. There has not been a Strike in this School District as far as I can remember. Yet it seems all the Teachers have to do is Threaten a Strike and this and previous Boards has bent over. We are over 2 MILLION in the HOLE and facing 5 MILLION in the RED someone at the BOE better grow a pair this year as the Taxpayers have SPOKEN NO MORE MONEY FROM US AT ALL UNTIL THE BOOKS ARE IN ORDER. It is not the State being Behind in their Payments that caused this Problem THE BOE KNEW THAT WAS AN ISSUE AND FAILED TO PLAN FOR IT.

Do you pay them under current contracts, pay them either the high school or elem wages meaning either one group gets a huge raise or one gets a big drop. Or do you negotiate a new contract? My old firm had considerable experience with school consolidations, and I got stuck bargaining the collective bargaining agreements in the new districts. In my cases, and in every other case I know of, the resulting salaries tended to be lower than what the high school teachers could normally expect in a high school only district. In contrast, the grade school teachers made out like bandits. In Elmhurst Dist.205, the York High School teachers' salaries used to be comparable to the top high schools in the area. After the unit district was created, they began to fall far behind. The grade school teachers were happy campers. Their salaries moved them above the salaries of grade schools that used to pay similar salaries. You might think that it would balance out, but there are far more grade school teachers in a unit district then high school teachers. Also, the myth that consolidation lowers administrative salaries is not borne out by a study of schools around the state. Because the resulting district is much larger than the districts from which the new district was formed, the administrators claim that they should be paid far more money than they were paid in the past. In addition, larger districts tend to have a small army of administrators that smaller districts do not have.

Watch this group of belly walkers, adjust the teacher's contracts, with a big raise , & let the state figure it out. Kind of like a lame duck session, but With spineless dummies. There's no $$$.
