A $5 million dollar deficit projected, no action by the board, what a bunch of dummies. These teachers will not come to their businesses of the board members. It must be a feAther in the hat or up their •ass thing. Timid and stupid.

I thought you wanted the state to come in. Won't this speed the process up? This will also show the union the ball is in their court to make some concessions. If the state comes in how will negotiations go with them?
The State can also come in and remove the board and Admin if they feel they are not effective. If they do that so be it. I have no problem with that either. I want the best for this district and the kids. Eliminating more teachers won't make anything better and will get us by another year maybe. Why delay it a year? Bring the state and some money to our district. Six or seven other districts in the state are already under some kind of state control. More will be soon.

Look the School board at ses44 and 45 have done this for the last what 40 years now. I was in the class at ses45 when we merged with the Eagle school district. At that time when the state was paying bills on time and we had more jobs in Streator the board had overspend to the tune of 4.5 million dollars. The more things change the more they stay the same.

Judging by the number of armchair quarterbacks posting one would think there would not be room on the ballot for all the people wanting to run for school board. These simpletons should run for board, win, and then they could implement their ideas instead of bitching and boasting what they would do.

I would've been on the ballot this year however I was diagnosed with Parkinson's and right now my health is way more important to me and my family than fixing 40 years worth of no backbone school board decisions.

Were you on the ballot before parkinson's hit? I notice you are complaining about the last 40 years. Were you one the ballot any of the last 40 years?
I appreciate all of the time and energy Moose and the board spend doing a thankless job for NO PAY, and almost never a thank you from the community and children the board serves to help and protect.
I agree with Waldo, armchair quarterbacking is easy when you sit and do nothing. I would prefer if you aren't doing anything to solve the problem, leave the problem solving to people in the community that step up to the plate.

I was about to turn in my petition for the board when I was given the bad NEWS. I was getting ready to be on the BOE making the very hard choices and being one of the few in this town with a SPINE to tell the Teachers to suck eggs this year if they want any raises and to force them to pay MORE for their INSURANCE.

I have a question that maybe fatheroftwo can answer. If the state does come in and takes over and eliminates the school board, are they required to put a property tax increase on the ballot or can they unilaterally raise the property taxes if they deem more revenue is needed?

I think what it will come down to in the future is that the state will start consolidating all these various school districts. we have too chiefs and not enough Indians the administration costs are out of hand.

Tax increases have to be placed on the ballot if it is above what is allowed by law, like the one that just got voted down.
We explored consolidation a few years ago with SHS but the big holdup is each HS feeder district has to approve a new tax rate. The HS didn't want to explore it further last time.

This town has no reason in the world to have two separate school districts w/ admin duplication and all that goes w/ running two school districts in our small town. It just goes against common sense.

If the HS did not want to seek progress, maybe they are part of the problem. Can the Consolidation just be put on the Ballot to combine? Perhaps there are people that do not want to lose their position. I would think Consolidation would have many benefits. Any time you can streamline things and share resources it has to be to the good, isn't it? From Administrators to School busses to art teachers and maintenance equipment. I would think if the state starts consolidating school districts then some the top administrators would be losing their employment. maybe this is why the high school district refuses to take part in a consolidation of districts. the state can consolidate school districts on their own without a vote by the public I think.

If you were any of the 3 superintendents in town, would you want to consolidate? Some high paying supt. is going to lose their job if that happens. That is the one reason these talks never go forward!!
