This is a great town, of course there are issues, every town has them, but when things get bad we all pull together!!! Some people are just to self absorbed to see that!!!
I was born here but grew up in Tampa, I have raised 4 kids here and I am always a asking my mom how she let us go out of the house, when I was 16 the very spot I was running the serial killer Bobbie Jo Long was active, I am so glad my kids are growing up here!!!!
In my class alone 1 girl was kidnapped and murdered in the next 2 years 2 more, so I am sorry if I think peeing in the street is just petty, or if snow is piled up, hey we are doing pretty d**n good!

Well Kyle has his 'blog' about how everything is horrible and Leadership is to blame for everything. This is a great town, of course there are issues, every town has them, but when things get bad we all pull together!!! Some people are just to self absorbed to see that!!! I was born here but grew up in Tampa, I have raised 4 kids here and I am always asking my mom how she let us go out of the house, when I was 16 the very spot I was running the serial killer Bobbie Jo Long was active, I am so glad my kids are growing up here!!!! In my class alone 1 girl was kidnapped and murdered in the next 2 years 2 more, so I am sorry if I think peeing in the street is just petty, or if snow is piled up, hey we are doing pretty d**n good! What a shame that a positive thread couldn't be created without bringing me into it along with the crap talk of my detractors. I certainly never said that our leadership is to blame for everything, but our leaders are the only ones who can make many of the changes that are needed here. Because I want things done differently, wanting there to be some consequences for the excessive violence here to cut down on the amount of it, instead of them spending their time creating so many consequences for businesses who want to follow laws, that makes me self absorbed? Couldn't it be said that the people who want drunks to be able to continue to expose themselves to children in our streets are self absorbed too? Because there was a serial killer(who was caught and is on death row) in a City of over 350,000 (not that we don't have child murderers walking free on our streets), you think that people should be able to expose themselves to children in front of our movie theatre with no consequences? I feel that grown men exposing themselves in the middle of our streets is wrong and that there should be consequences, particularly when there is a witness begging the officer to take action and showing eagerness to testify against the law breaker. Do you really feel that it is acceptable for our City to refuse to take any action against someone in the middle of Vermillion Street with their peni s out of the pants while children are around? I want changes so that our children don't see men exposing themselves in our downtown, but yet when asking for the change am attacked by our City leaders and their supporters who seem to just want the drunks to have the right to expose themselves in our streets. As far as the snow removal, don't you realize that it is not about having some snow piled up, but about our City leaders making business owners illegal for having any snow at all on the sidewalks? Did you know that since they can't seem to write a reasonable ordinance that can be followed, I had asked them to just rescind the ordinance, but that it seems they just want to keep making business owners be illegal? I think that having snow piled up and shoppers having to trudge through unsafe conditions is much better than making just about every business and commercial property owner in town be illegal, and scaring off perspective businesses with the theat of huge expenses or daily fines. With so few businesses, continually declining population and property values, and escalating crime and tax rates, do you really think that we couldn't be doing better? I agree thatthere are some positive things happening in Streator though. Even I am working on a project(suggested by our Mayor) that will have a positive message for the community.

Just quit thinking 2. Oh we must be talking about iron eagles kids, who had to go to counciling because some guy was peeing in the street, ya don't impress me, my senior year of high school some guy dropped his skivvies and jacked off right there in the commons, yet somehow I managed to survive. 3. I don't care how positive it may seem if your involved I would rather see some guy pee in the street!

MM, don't jinx us just yet.
Things aren't all rosy out here in manufacturing right now. I hope I am wrong, but Millis is gone, and I hear the oilfields are cancelling orders.
Let's hold our breath things don't deteriorate.

Sorry I am in Kyle's corner in this one. When I see this City turning around is when the Police get off their BUTTS and do something about the crime in this town. Yesterday a Kid picked up a Dirty freaking Needle at Family Dollar. In 2012 the Entire Police force only made 48 DUI Arrests less than 1 a week and that is Direct from the State Police REPORTS. We have a Mayor that refuses to do anything about the Drunken Brawls when he as Liquor Commish has all the Power HE NEEDS in his Title. All he would have to do is Suspend Liquor License of the Bars that are causing the Fights for 1 Month and tell them the Next time They are REVOKED. You think that would stop the Over serving in this town. No License no REVENUE meaning no MONEY coming in.

No called I have seen what happens when someone stands up to this City in the Past. In the mid to late 90's I made the same Mistake Kyle did aka wanting the city to clean up its act and stop running Businesses out of town. Here is what they did to ME when I was an OTR Driver. I owned a Z34 Lumina coupe that had Plates Insurance and was capable of being Driven at anytime aka the tires where NOT Flat the battery was NOT DEAD and the gas tank was full. However my job kept me out of town for Months at a time every Single TIME I was gone for more than a Month My Parents would get a Certified Letter from the City saying my car was a Junk Car and a Code Violation. Never mind the facts that it had the Required Insurance and Plates PER ILLINOIS LAW. I rented a Space to park my Semi Truck when I came home all of a Sudden the City passed an Law that NO TRUCKS where to be parked in City Limits at All. The City Fathers have done about everything they can to Run out Everyone that Wants to WORK. We have no POLICE that do their Jobs we find Drug Needles in Parking Lots. You fight in the Streets go back into the Bar. Flash a 6 Year old Girl just go have another Drink. You see a Pattern here NO ONE IN THIS CITY WANTS TO CHANGE how it is run. Everyone here either has their Head in the sand or is Afraid if they say SOMETHING the City is going to Hammer them so freaking bad with Code Violations that they will never Recover.

Everyone here either has their Head in the sand or is Afraid if they say SOMETHING the City is going to Hammer them so freaking bad with Code Violations that they will never Recover. I disagree. Unlike the old saying, "you can't fight City Hall", you absolutely can. You just have to have your facts, research, and go about it the right way. I'm not saying YOU ironeagle didn't do that. I have no idea. I'm saying that I have seen people in my own family and neighborhood challenge the City and be successful. None of them had the city hammer them with code violations afterwards. They approached them, the City listened, and solutions were found...together.

Anonymous your one of the LUCKY ones in this city then. I had the Pleasure of dealing with the City AFTER my mother sold her house to someone else and they where sending HER CODE VIOLATIONS for the Construction Debris in her old Yard. Even though we took them the SIGN NOTARIZED LEGAL PAPERWORK that showed SHE SOLD THE HOUSE they STILL SAID SHE WAS RESPONSIBLE for the DEBRIS. We took it to Court the JUDGE threw it out and told the City the NEXT time they did this to MY FAMILY HE WOULD HOLD THE CITY IN CONTEMPT. They got the Message as they for now have stopped.
He remembered what the City had done to me regarding my car and was not happy with the Code Officers that they refused to even look at Legal Paperwork that showed the Property in Question was SOLD.

Let's hold our breath things don't deteriorate. From what I've heard, Vactor is on a hiring freeze now...Not to mention the mess with OSHA at Flinks...Things are up in the air with the Sysco/US Foods deal, and who knows what effect that will have... On that note, I agree that there have been positive things happening...However, when the majority of businesses coming into town seem to be geared around gambling machines, it doesn't seem like many "career" opportunities are coming with them...

I have gone to them with facts, research, and gone about it the right way and they did hammer my family. I will be happy to provide some examples if you like. I do agree that you can fight City Hall though. Our founding fathers gave us the tools and since so many people have made huge sacrifices to protect them, I don't like to let them go to waste.

I am working on a project(suggested by our Mayor) that will have a positive message for the community. I don't care how positive it may seem if your involved I would rather see some guy pee in the street! Yes, I believe that our city leaders share that same type of attitude. It doesn't matter what it is or whether or not it could be good for the community, to them it is only about who it is coming from. Thanks for highlighting that you and your friends at City Hall would rather watch guys pee in the street than see something positive for the community. I think that is why we don't a have a movie theatre or many other things here and why we do need some new leaders who are willing to start doing things differently.

Well Kyle I certainly mean no offense. I have edited your NAME out of it. I don't know why you are offended. Are you trying to distance yourself from your negativity and attacks? You have edited the thread to be 'Kyle's Blog', that's why I felt free to use your name. But I have edited the original post as you requested. I only mentioned it to highlight that it was meant to be a contrasting view of Streator going down the toilet and being such a terrible place. I think if you open your eyes you can see a lot going on and a positive attitude generally yields superior results compared to complaining and crying about things and playing blame games. Anyway, yeah....positive....positive things are going on..... I neglected to mention Safe Haven and the old PNA auto parts building. How long since THAT place had an occupant? Good Luck to them. They are here trying to serve needs in the Community and I hope they find some support. I am not even trying to be political in this thread. Just pointing out that SOME things are moving in a positive direction. Let's hope it catches and grows and snowballs. Oh no mm, I didn't take any offense to any of it at all, didn't want you to edit my name out, and am not trying to distance myself from anything at all. I truly would have liked for there to be a positive thread and think it could have been a good one (without even mentioning my name). Considering that some people here just like to attack me anytime they have the chance, mentioning my name was just an invitation to them. Streator is not a terrible place and does not need to be going down the toilet like it is, but it is time that they do start doing things differently and start correcting some serious problems.
