Anyone aware of who takes old TV's or if there is an electronics drop off anytime soon? I'm glad that you posted this, because I was going to. A good friend of mine took an old tv over to some recycling center in Ottawa and ended up paying 75$ to get rid of an old TV! They even told him then that there would be a FREE electronics pickup over there in Ottawa, and then also in Streator come this April. Now his WIFE didn't want that hanging around in their garage until April, so he paid them to take this TV off his hands for $75.00...I told him he was crazy to not wait, WTH! Hell...we have two TV's now and a couple other items to recycle........... that would be the day that I'd pay that much per item to get rid of, pppffttt!!! If anyone does hear when this pick up is, then please post...........thanks! M

Thank you for posting. I'll be waiting. I called over to the Ottawa Goodwill and they said there is a place in Ottawa called Simco (sp?) that charges 50 cents a lb. to recycle old TV's.

This thread had me thinking, and I dug out the receipt for the last "box" T.V. I bought and it shows I was charged a "Disposal Fee" of $15.00 at the time of purchase...Much like buying new tires, one is charged for disposal at the time of purchase...I understand that in the case of tires, the old ones are being disposed of immediately...However, not too many of us take our old T.V.'s in when purchasing a new one... Guess I'll call Best Buy and see where they want me to take my old T.V. for disposal, or maybe I'll just return it to them since they were paid the fee...
