We did see something we both liked. It was some strips of metal used for a back splash, or perhaps above the backsplash up to where the top Cabinets are at. Dresses it up nicely and keeps it a surface that repels water. Easy to wipe and clean. A friend of mine replaced countertops on the side. He liked to fill in that area between the countertop and the cabinets w/ ceramic tile. (He was working on a high end house, though.)

I have an Elkay stainless steel sink. It is the deep one. I tried to figure out the faucet but can't see a name on it anywhere. I think it was German made and not cheap. Hubby still does not like that the hot and cold are reversed to what American standards are. It has been a work horse though with no problems. It has a long stainless steel hose on the sprayer that I love. We remodeled the kitchen in 2004.

I have a friend in Coal City that used copper tiles between the counters, up to the cabinets, including behind the stove & sink. (<those 2 being the hardest to clean!) Tile is so much easier to clean-up! My aunt even used it for the bottom of every window too! No moisture/molding of wood, just wipe. They even created lil ledges to put small potted plants/garden veggie starters on.

I would definitely use stainless steel or copper as the backsplash for the stove top area.

A downfall of tile behind the stove is the grout getting stained, greasy etc. Maybe a SS whole peice would be better behind the stove. Costly, but would last forever.
