CP, I believe they are referring more to the hierarchical nature of the Amish life, much like the Mafia is, rather than any form of crime. And also was I sniper, they would be the farthest away from the mafia than anyone, that is what makes it more funny.

Now I can't imagine a car dealer getting befuddled over just a few thousand in cash. I would have thought they maybe dealt with that pretty frequently. I think it was more they didn't see it enough to have a ready plan to account for it. Most every car today is financed and the transaction is comprised of 1's and 0's across the screen. Franklin doesn't squeeze into a spreadsheet very well, and making the beancounters happy is tough enough without introducing a source of physical leakage ( theft ) into the system.

I had a windfall of 15k. I went to the bank and made them count out CASH. Then after all this went on for a good 30 mins, I asked about a certified check. Took out my cash and got the cert. check. I'll bet they just loved me for doing that to them. I had to. Times were bad & I was very popular w/ unpopluar people.

We had a house closing in our Loop office, and a farmer from the Orland Park area showed up with $40,000 in cash for the purchase price. The attorney handling the closing tried to explain that walking around the Loop with that much cash was not a good idea.
