nort, that is the answer that the board is afraid to enact. They are afraid of the teacher's union and will not face off with them. The board cuts the custodians and aides and will not tamper with the $80,000 + teacher and administrator's pay. Who knows, they probably will extend the administrator's contract and give them a large raise. I doubt the union will strike, they just walk around the building by mcd*onalds in the rain, and look stupider, than they are. It takes scores of taxpayer money to pay one teacher, for one year. When will these spineless board members, realize the well is drying up? Maybe, the solution is to tax and enact a humongous surcharge on resale and pawn shops.

Fot, it looks like only 2 people are willing to put up with the crap, to run. With all of the ridicule I keep hearing, i sure as hell wouldn't do it. Along with being a teacher or a cop. Who needs the grief? HC, the issue is not so much the job, it is the intractable position the State puts you in with the restrictions you can do. The key is reforms at the state level, then you would see action at the local level. What was that age old saying? I am the Engineer of the train, the whistle I cannot blow, but let the d**n thing jump the tracks and see who catches hell... ( shortened version )

I think calling the school board members spineless is cruel. Those board members are good people with full time jobs and families. They volunteer their time to help run the schools and do what's best for the teachers, the kids and the community. They can only work with what they have. It's become a thank-less job.
Opinions are like ass-holes. Everyone has one. Step up, run for the Board! Spouting off on here won't change a thing.

No one has the Time to be on the School Board when your forced to work 2 Jobs or work a 2nd shift Job our way out of Town to have a Decent Job. You try and support your Family on a Job here in town that pays what 9 Bucks an hour like Results. No School District unless they have more than 3 thousand Students needs more than 1 Super we have 2 at SES with less than 9 hundred. We have a very Top heavy District meaning we have way to ADMINS and has been like this for over 40 Years. We need to gut the ADMIN Side of this District to cut it down. That and Forcing the TEACHERS to pay for their INSURANCE. Zero cost Insurance is costing this District MILLIONS in extra Costs next contract if they bend over for the Teachers that badly again then look out. I am Disabled and I pay more for my Medicare copay and Insurance than a Teacher does at SES 44.

I think all children should have the chance to receive good education. the education system needs to downsize to survive in my opinion. the state should consolidate the school districts as a start to cut the budget. I think we have too many administrators and assistants feeding from the taxpayers pocket. consolidating would save a lot of administration costs since there are 1,101 school districts in the state. some of these school districts have less then 892 students but yet have a full staff of administrators and assistants serving the district. total staff employees at all these school districts tops 152,866 and that is not counting the teachers. if the facts are correct on the website education bug there are more staff personal then there are teachers in the state. so in layman's terms there are more chiefs then Indians.

anon, I only opinionate my taxpayer thoughts. This country has presidents that owned slaves and had wives that had friends, out by the wood pile. This is not venom, but a solid upbringing for hard work and values. Looting and burning buildings down by St.Louis, does not reflect a race that has an education or deserve respect.

Well....let's see now.....Just a small part of the problem may be that there are currently 500 retired school administrators drawing Illinois taxpayer funded pensions to the tune of $100,000,000/month...pensions ranging from $10,000 to 20,000 per month. Don't know if their cola's are frozen, but at that rate, what is the difference. How about it fellow taxpayers? Anything wrong with this system? I suppose not if you happen to be on the receiving end of this. I seriously doubt that what piddly pension I will get will even cover the cost of a government mandated health insurance plan...BUT....I do get the privilege of helping countless others pay for their health plans.
I am sure I will catch he ll for this statement.

There are about 1800 students in the grade school district. 2 administrators plus a principal at each building. Northlawn has 2 for approx 900 kids. The Supt and Asst are doing the work that 4 did a few years back.
Woodland and SHS receive money from farmland that the grade school does not. They also get money from the wind/solar farms.

Hate to break it to you FOT, the Farmland doesn't get taxed SQUAT compared to houses. That is why my House taxes are much higher than a comparable Streator home. Farmland taxes aren't over 10 bucks an acre for my farmland, thus they hammer us homeowners ( Otter Creek ). I do believe you guys share our wind/solar payments as well, at least that is what was presented when they were putting them up.

We get nothing. Our boundaries are 12th St to the south. Airport Rd to the east, RP Lumber to the north and west out to Eagle Church.

Fot 's information is why there is a deficit problem, not capable of running a large school entity. Noble try, but not qualified.

I remember being outraged that they could get tax money from something no closer than 6 miles from the town. On edit, never mind, it is the High School that gets the tax money.
