I always used/went to the Majestic theater to see movies when it was open. It really hit home this weekend just how much though. Friday, we, as a family drove to Bloomington to go out to dinner and then go see American Sniper at the Galaxy. Dinner was fine and when we got to the theater, I realized the mistake we made when it was difficult to even find a parking spot.....SOLD OUT. Drove home. Figured today would be a good day to try again, went to Peru instead to catch the mid afternoon showing.....SOLD OUT! Again! I could not believe it. All my life I have never encountered this, and now two times in the same weekend after the movie has been out for a week already.
Really a sad, sad situation to have the Majestic in town with padlocks on the doors. Sure was nice when it was open. Got to see first run movies, didn't have to drive far to do it and did not cost an arm and a leg to take in a movie along with concessions either.

One of my all time places to hang out in Streator; never will forget Summer of 2010 they sold out for the Advance screening of Twilight;literally--every seat in the Majestic was taken. Also this past year when they showed "Gods Not Dead"--that theater had some huge turnouts as well...had it not closed, I bet Hunger Games would have been a huge crowd as well. Also--it was just a great place to escape to, & it did feel like home. I'm hoping & crossing my fingers something will work out & that ugly plywood will disappear, and the large crowds & red neon marquee lights return. Until then--big loss for Streator.

Last movie I was able to see there was God's Not Dead. I wasn't able to go very often but I do miss it being there if I was.
edit: oops I think it was how to train a dragon 2

We thought about going Saturday and when we went to check times, they were not sold out.

We went to the earliest show for American Sniper over the weekend in Peru and there were plenty of seats left.
