I was going through a bunch of smalls today, and came across these two vintage pins which I am guesstimating to be from the 1950's. Both which happened to be ironically together...so I thought I would share, lol. Gotta love the stuff one finds in old cigar boxes.... M

MM I am assuming that these are much older just from the look of them. I have one of those Badge a Minit machine presses, which I know nothing about..or even how, or if it works. Never knew that it was made in Oglesby though, thanks for letting me know that. M

Gosh 50's ? Would that have been around the time of Mayor Sopher? (sp) I just know there was some kind of corruption allegations. It was 'before my time', same as Governor Kerner. SSSHHHH....maybe Kyle doesn't know that Streator had corruption charges in it's past. You talking about this corruption.........? M

MnM! I still have my "Brother of the Brush" pin somewhere here. I was even able to grow a stub of hairs on my chinny chin chin in 1968. SHS encouraged guys to grow beards that special year. I also had a Streator centennial banner that was hung on the light poles. I gave it to the museum about 10 years ago.

I don't remember the banners downtown, but that was awful nice of you to donate yours to the Historical Society Museum. Next time I go in there I'm gonna ask Pat to show that to me. I do think that there are a couple other different pins, one commemorating just the centennial, and another one that I think if memory suits me was 'a lil shavers club' ? The year of the centennial my brother was in the National Guard and they were called out to aid in controlling the riots breaking out up in Chicago. Because of the centennial my brother had special permission to grow back his beard, and hair. He came upon a man who took one look at him, assumed that he was some special forces because of the overgrowth of hair...my brother looked at him and said, "gimmie some skin man"...and the guy jetted off in fear......hahaha!!!! I was pretty young, but remember the centennial was a big deal. I remember all the men growing various whiskers and side burns. I remember the special edition of the newspaper being HUGE. I really felt sorry for the kids having to deliver it because some of them were not much older than I was. It seemed like it was twice as thick as the Tribune Sunday paper. It was huge. When I moved into my house, I inherited an old fridge in the basement that came with the house. It is so old that it has a centennial bumper sticker on it. It must have been at least 30 years old in 68'. It's an oldie.....still ran when I plugged it in. LOL........when you were pretty young. lol! Ok...I was too, no seriously I was!!! I remember going from town to town in a caravan dressed all up in old period clothes, which I was used to doing anyway because my parents, my sister and I would get all dressed up for parades..in my favorite old car that he owned a 1910 Marmon. We even put on the high button shoes of the day which were a pain to put on with a button hook.......but that was so much fun though riding in that car, and looking the part too then! Speaking of the bumper sticker on that old fridge, I have a bunch of those too! Gee, go figure, eh! M

MnM I don't know if they kept the banner. It was in great shape (in my mind) before I took it out to mail to the museum. It was pretty beat over, but I had made a promise to give it to them. I put a note in the box saying I would not be upset if they threw it out. Who knows? They may have kept it.

Perhaps they did keep it, or they did have one that was in better shape to display. Still I would love to see one though. Here is another Centennial pin.....I thought that there were more. M

Does anyone know if " Home Juice " OR " Charles Chips " products were ever a part of Home / Bar Delivery in Streator back in the; " 1950 - 1970 " eras?
Would have been on the same order as home Milk delivery; mostly Taverns for Orange Juice and Lemonade.
I believe the bottles were produced at Owens in Streator, home base for Home Juice was in S. Suburbs of Chicago and Joliet.
The Chips, Pretzels, and other snacks including Cookies were delivered in up to 2 lb. large tins.
A few yrs. back the Chips were sold in Cracker Barrel Restaurants by tin and bag, now the chips can be found at Hy-Vee in Peru.

Hmmm...the only chips that I remember in a tin were Cumin (sp)? potato chips......OMG were they ever good! Also there was some kind of thin pretzel sticks that I remember being in a flat box, about 5 " x 4", then wrapped in clear cellophane...but I don't remember the name of those either. Home Juice and Chucks Chips...I don't remember though...sorry. M

I'm clueless. I don't remember either item being made in Streator. I will say that as a new student in Dallas, I was at a local cafe and I picked up every bottle at the table. The majority were made in Streator by O-I. I felt so homesick at the time and it picked me up.
