Don't worry man, Illinois residents don't mind eating beans so their rulers don't have to scrimp.

When we moved to Indiana, for several months we owned three houses: our current house, a vacation home in Indiana and our old house in Flossmoor. The real estate taxes for our house in Illinois were a couple of thousand more than the combined taxes of the houses in Indiana.

And the sad thing is your property taxes in Indiana are enough to make you regurgitate........ I can't imagine what the taxes were in Illinois.

Fourteen years ago, we were paying $15,000 a year in real estate taxes in Illinois.

Hence my admiration of the rich......... I would become physically ill paying that much.
That is more than I paid for my first house in Streator, and 1/5th as much as I paid for my brand new house........ Every year, just for the privilege of residing on land you already paid for.

We live about three blocks from the Lake. The people who own homes on the beach pay as much as $35,000 a year in taxes. In some cases, such as the Carey family, the houses are second homes. Among other things, the Carey family owns the Hawthorne Race Track in Illinois. Bob Searle, of pharmaceutical money, has spent over a million dollars "improving" his house. Bob has only stayed in the house about five times in the last five years.
We are among the poor people in town.

No wonder you will not host Streatoronline next shindig at your home in Indiana. All them pickup trucks would probably not be permitted in your 'hood. g

Well Greek, we could always have a shindig at your house.
When we lived in Flossmoor, there was an ordinance forbidding pickup trucks in town overnight. A state cop moved into town and promptly received a couple of tickets. He contacted one of the Chicago "shock jocks." It might have been Dahl, a guy who has a place about two miles north of us. The shock jock called the mayor and said something like: "What's the big deal with pickups? They are better than a rusty car." The mayor responded: "There are no rusty cars in Flossmoor."
Our youngest daughter once dated a guy from another suburb. Because the guy drove a "beater," the cops pulled him over every time he came into town. That stopped when a cop stopped him when my daughter was in the car. According to her then boyfriend, our daughter explained to the cop the error of his ways in strong language.

We live a couple of blocks from a house supposed built by Al Capone. Viewed from the air, the house looks like a revolver. When Frank Leahy was coaching at Notre Dame, he lived in the house. wikimapia.org/15992385/Al-Capone-House

Job, Naw, I wouldn't want my customers think I was "putting on airs" when you pull up in your limo. I didn't mean put you on the spot. Obviously, those you pretend to respect on "Streatoronline" would make your neighbors question the quality of friends. It's tough on Main Street, and I drive a "Rusty" Pickup. My "second" car is a "beater". g

Greek, we don't have neighbors. Long Beach has around 1100 houses and a population of about 1000. Most of the houses near us are owned by rich "weekenders" from Chicago. The house nearest to us is owned by some guy who runs an investment fund. I have never met him; he comes out to his place every couple of years. My wife met him a few years ago, and she thought he was a nice person.
Finally, I noted your comment: "Obviously, those you pretend to respect on "Streatoronline" would make your neighbors question the quality of friends." Greek, you are such a pathetic worm. I have met, face-to-face, a number of posters here. They may not have liked me, but I doubt any of them thought I "pretended" anything. "Pretend," you know, like attempting to create a phony persona as a successful businessman on Main Street.

Well our State is at it again. We have additional regulations to abide by. We now have a Food Handlers Certificate program. Every single person that prepares, touches, serves you food will have to be tested, certified and fleeced for a modest sum by our State. This is all in the name of public safety, but I think it could be easily seen that it is yet another regulation to be in compliance with. This means everyone from McDonalds servers to waitresses to a bartender that serves you a frozen pizza. I am not sure how it affects self serve type stuff like a roller dog or Casey's doughnut or slice of Pizza. It effects a LOT of people though and certificates are to be kept on file at the Employer's and available when the Health Department does their inspections. I suppose it is not a horrible idea in theory, that everyone have a better awareness of what causes food illnesses, but in practice, it seems like yet another way to scam some money. Both to the person likely working a Min. wage job and the Employer struggling to stay in compliance. I know at least one bar that is discontinuing their frozen pizzas and any snack that is not individually wrapped rather than try to get every single bartender in compliance and keep a record of it. Considering some things ive seen from food handlers, my question is, what took so long?
