I had heard about a month ago about this. It is great news for the town. It is though not so good news for grade school district. Trailer court is in Grand Ridge district.

My sister did this from the time she was 15 as a Zonta Teen at the hospital. She moved on to Heritage Manor, then LPN school in Peru and finally became a very successful RN. Today there are still a lot of hard working people in our town. I have two neighbors that travel to all parts of the country to work. Some for weeks at a time. It;s a tough deal, but they support their families and have benefits.

Both of my kids have multiple jobs while achieving honor roll status. Son works 2 jobs and daughter has 3. They are both hard working, courteous kids. They have had chores around the house for years and they know how to cook, clean and do laundry. There are many kids in this town just like them.

My whole family went to work when they/we were fifteen. There was no pressure put on Mom or me from ourparents. We didn't ask ourkids to go to work, but they did. I had two jobs while in HS. One in the cafeteria during school and one at a store on Main St after school. Then home to study.

Talk about work ethic .... when Thatchers went down, my husband and a few guys went to work up in the Owen's plant in Chicago Heights..................which they did car pool there and back. When it snowed bad, guess who all made it there 90 MILES away to work their shift, the Streator guys............when the call ins were all the local guys. Made the locals there look pretty d@mn stupid to say the least that they couldn't make it then to work.................eh? Talk about dedication, and work ethic. M I know well who car pooled with your hubby all the way up there. His wife also was displaced from Thatchers and she drove all the way to Lincoln to a glass factory to work. So did at least one other Streator worker. I truly do miss the "Big Guy" ya know he always told people that he was an Indian,we all did believe him that he was, lol....he was such a great guy!!! Favorite story with him...we went to a house after the bars closed to some IDK "Indians" he knew, lol. Well when we were there, there was a guy sitting not speaking any English but uttering over and over again...'I miss my country'. I of course felt sorry for this guy, which Danny and others had several words with. One thing that Danny made it a point about though was he said........, " Lumpy, Kay...I don't know about you all or how you do things here...but I think we should all keep our lawnmowers in the living room"...................... YES there was a lawn mower in the living room next to the couch..............and the little guy kept crying about his country...................... LOL..............ya had to be there!!! Rest in peace Danny!!! M

RIP indeed. Great guy, Great heart, no pretenses at all. He made my life richer and better for knowing him and befriending me. We certainly shared more than a few smiles, stories, motorcycle rides and a couple of beers here and there. Every time he was here at our house we had to play the same song, and he had this dance only he could do, lol ! One Christmas dancing to that tune...Lumpy had to catch him knocking over our Christmas tree..thank God he did though! We miss him too much as well! M

FOT, has anyone ever asked ALM to petition out of the Grand Ridge School District. Now would be the time to do it. They would not be losing kids and the ground is going to be empty for awhile. Maybe the new owners of the property would be willing. With no kids or families that property would make more sense being in our area than Grand Ridge and the courts eventually decide. Hell, use that Tort fund for something good.

Don't lump everyone into one group because you don't have a clue. I know quite a few young people that are making it in the world and they were born, raised & educated in Streator. You'd be surprised if I started naming their professions and accomplishments. Exactly, my 18 year old goes to school from 8-12 (her senior year), and works at a nursing home she holds the positions of activities aid, tray aid and feeder, puts in about 30 hours a week. She starts CNA classes in January and then plans on getting her RN when she graduates. I feel bad at times as she has no time for friends and fun during her senior year, but this is her passion and choice and I am very proud of her! Mt4 my sister went to college to to become a CNA at IV and then after she graduated IV she found a college in Iowa where she recently graduated there and got her RN. She used to be a activity aid at Camalot (SP) and now she got married and working at an assisted living in Iowa where her and her husband lives. Shes 24 going to be 25
