STERTL ALM has bought more property and will be expanding to the north. At Christmas party, we were told, sales are up and HUGE accounts for business in the future. Millions of dollars being invested in our community!!!! The folks from the Netherlands, are thouroughly impressed w/ the work ethic and quality produced, right here in Streator, Illinois. Kudos to those workers at ALM, for making this a reality!!!

They could not believe, how different we are than other countries. Fast learners and quality excellence. It is a great thing for Streator. And it could not have happened w/o good folks doing a great job!!!

Growing up in Streator and working in one of the local factories, I was impressed with the work ethic of the people I worked with. Big surprise, many of the people I worked with were decendents of coal miners and people who had worked in the early glass and clay product plants.
My oldest brother was in middle management at Owens' Streator plant. He received a nice promotion when he transferred to the Winston-Salem plant. He always remarked about how Streator workers were far more productive than the employees in the N.C. plant.

The workers years ago had and still have good work ethic. The spawn nowadays, have no intention of working or making something great out their life. Telemarketing, fast food and welfare are their goals. Maybe ALM can get some good workers from other counties, or North of streator. Most oldtimers are retired and that valuable ethic is not instilled in the young spawn. These kids would have to pull their pants up and remove their piercings to meet a safety dress code.

Glad to hear this good news. BTW We all will miss that vacation/condo neighborhood wonderland called Del Monte Courts.
MM that was a great comment. My Dad fought in The Battle of the Bulge, where more Americans lost their lives than any other WWII battle. On the home front, my Mother was aked to teach school in Bradley. My brother was a babe in arms, but she took the principal up. Lived in his family home on a bed and breakfast deal. Every night, no matter what the weather, she took her baby and walked downtown there to a cheap diner. Both of them were very brave. They deserve to be called "The Greatest Generation".

I understand your cynicism. Some of it may even be justified, but you paint with way too broad of a brush. Give some of the young people a chance and they might surprise you. Some may be slackers, but some of us were too when we were younger, especially if there were no repercussions. Give them a job they can be proud of, a wage that is meaningful and some responsibilities that go along with it and I bet they would surprise you. If you give them a minimum wage job that numbs the mind, smells of grease, and the alternative is 'money for nothing' drawing from our welfare rolls.....what do you expect? It is no surprise they would rather not work and don't show up. Now who's fault is it? The kids, or the system that allows them to get paid just for being born and still breathing? No Sir.....fix the system and then maybe you can address the problems with the individuals. I was talking with my Dad and complimented him on how much I respect his generation, the WW2 Vets. It's amazing the things they did, the sacrifices they made, and the accomplishments they made. They defeated Hitler and the Nazis, Japan, AND the Italians, saved the world for Democracy and they did it all in about 3.5 years. They were literally not much more than kids. Is it any wonder they came home and kickedbuttand brought our economy to new found heights? They were 20-somethings, survived the War and had a can do attitude and an ability to pull together. Anyway.....he said something that surprised me. He said if kids had to do the same thing today, they could do it too, maybe even better with how good they are with technology. I think maybe he could be right. Give our young people some credit, we have a lot of good kids. MM, you have NO clue, now spot on you are. The work force out there is young and motivated and when employees are given a living wage, and are involved, it makes for a great work place. It is a no nonsense place to work. Strict, and it is apparent it works.

Over the past ten or so years, I have gotten to know a number of people in Streator much younger than me. From the people I have met, I have concluded that there is still a strong core of people in town who have good values and good ethics. A lot of kids in town simply have not have a chance for a good job. I have a feeling that they will measure up to the task. Put young kids with hard-working men and women and they emulate their co-workers.

Don't lump everyone into one group because you don't have a clue. I know quite a few young people that are making it in the world and they were born, raised & educated in Streator. You'd be surprised if I started naming their professions and accomplishments.

Exactly, my 18 year old goes to school from 8-12 (her senior year), and works at a nursing home she holds the positions of activities aid, tray aid and feeder, puts in about 30 hours a week. She starts CNA classes in January and then plans on getting her RN when she graduates. I feel bad at times as she has no time for friends and fun during her senior year, but this is her passion and choice and I am very proud of her!

My understanding is the company bought all the property and notices have been sent out. Some have already moved.
Those folks behind the purchase of the trailer park are money folks. They have enough they could have just as easily bought somewhere else that would have had the accommodations to handle the business. They chose to purchase and build in Streator.
I've always felt in my heart that every dog has its' day and that our day will come. This is a pretty good start and a great day for Streator to be proud of the company.

Not too many good trailers left out there. This is great for Streator.

Talk about work ethic .... when Thatchers went down, my husband and a few guys went to work up in the Owen's plant in Chicago Heights..................which they did car pool there and back. When it snowed bad, guess who all made it there 90 MILES away to work their shift, the Streator guys............when the call ins were all the local guys. Made the locals there look pretty d@mn stupid to say the least that they couldn't make it then to work.................eh? Talk about dedication, and work ethic. M
