They mismanage the state's money and then have the balls to tell us to cut more school programs and staff, while raising our taxes?
If you can move to another state, people...do so.

butterbean, Are you and your wife, the Law School Professor at NIU, planning to move out of the State of Illinois in the near future, or are you waiting until those of remaining in the State can fund her pension? Don't you just hate those who suck the teat from the State of Illinois taxpayers...........unless it goes to you and the wifey? g

Greek,
Why do you always refer to Butter's wife as a teacher at NIU's law school?

It is sad that this district is hurting. It is probably why a lot of parents are doing home schooling. For my family, to move out of state and start all over again does not make sense for us. We own our home, free and clear, except for paying taxes.

FoT in order for many of the people of this town to even begin to think about Supporting any Tax Hike we would need to see first off massive cuts in the ADMIN side of the School District say half of the Supers that oversee the School. Getting rid of 1 maybe 2 people at Northlawn. Before you start to scream it can not be done all we have to do is look 4 miles to the South at Woodland a Unit School that gets by with an Admin Staff including all Secretaries of IIRC 7 People 1 Superintendent 1 Principal 2 Secretaries for the Schools one for the K-8 one for e the HS Side 1 Admin Secretary and 1 Bookkeeper and 1 other person in that staff. That is all they have out there. We on the other hand have what 8 Secretaries just at Northlawn it seems and how many at the Admin Building last time I had to go there I saw 7 Marked Parking Spaces. There can not be that much Paperwork that we need 18 Secretaries in the District.

There's 2 secretaries at Northlawn. 3 at Ad Bldg. 2 bookkeepers. We have more students at Northlawn than Woodland does in their building.
I could say that Woodland has too many compared to Ransom or Grand Ridge. Is Woodland wasting money? I do believe we could make a few more cuts by going part time with a few more positions. But I am only one vote. If and when the state Gomes in and takes over they get to do what they want and the board is powerless. They will make cuts and raise revenue and it won't matter to them how it affects the kids.

There are what 3 Admins at Northlawn ALONE now a Dean of Students plus 2 Principals. Sorry but that is way to bloated. We are facing Million dollar Shortfalls in the Budget it is time to get rid of some of the Overhead not the Teachers. Letting go of the Asst Super is not going to fill the hole but it will help. Getting rid of some extra Admins will help also before gutting the Teacher ranks anymore. Make the Cuts at the Top First then start looking at the Bottom. Remember you can only cut so much off the bottom of a tree before it will fall over from the weight overhead.

Northlawn now has about 900 students. There has been a school closed, a principal let go, a district coordinator and district librarian eliminated. There have been a couple secretary positions eliminated. There is now a Dean to help out at Northlawn because 2 people can't keep up with teacher evaluations, state required paperwork, dealing with day to day operations and take the time to keep the school safe.
For those that have ideas, you can pick up your petitions to run for any school board to help solve the problems. Filing date is mid December.

Slam duck over the idiot's ("Masked Man") sorry post, FOT. Good job. Slam DUCK??....quack quack. It sounds like they have 3 or 4x as many admins than they did back in Dave's day(He said they had one) and I BET apples to apples...grades 6,7, and 8 are about half to maybe as large as 3/4's as large as they were back in the 60's and 70's. Streator's population has declined(fewer kids), gotten older(fewer kids), and smaller family sizes(fewer kids). I stand by my statement.I don't doubt there are more mandates required now that require more paperwork and training to be in compliance with. I don't doubt there are ever more complicated problems to be dealt with.(discipline, drugs, kids with special needs and whatnot) I KNOW WHS's enrollment is far lower than when I was in school. I am pretty certain SHS (and the grade school(s) that feeds it) would be similar. My class at WHS started with a little over 100 and graduated 85-90. So was the year prior to me. Our enrollment in the HS was around 350 or better when I was in school. I bet graduating classes are about half that size now. Of course you do.
