Summer has not had one donation, she is working and will be paying for the trip herself. Sad her home town did not help.

...it's kinda'...well...a low priority with most people.

My son was also "selected" for this program twice...After doing some research, I decided it wasn't in his best interest...As a parent you have to remember a few things - YOU cannot guarantee your childs safety in a foreign country unless YOU are there... With the amount of travel warnings in place, the world can be a very dangerous place... Chaperones on these trips may not be qualified, which also puts your child at risk... It only takes one faux pas for your child to be detained or arrested in a foreign country, and you may not be able to do anything about it...
I'm not saying this isn't an excellent opportunity, but I am saying that my child simply wasn't worth the risks associated with it...

No offense, but why would people donate to send a teenager on vacation. A vacation is not a top priority to donate to for most people.

Did you ever contact the boy (and his family) that did fundraising a couple years ago? I remember there were numerous small events for him. I would think that people might have been more open to donating to your daughter, if they had an idea about a positive experience by him. I think the paper did a story about his fundraising efforts, but i don't remember anything after he returned. I would suggest (AGAIN, see pgs 1) you contact him, along with the Times, and ask him if he would discuss his experience with the paper, as a segment in an article on your daughters efforts. Making little digs as above probably won't bring in donors, though
