I had a check worth $175.000 showed it to the teller and She said that it looked real and would of deposited it in my account if I hadn't told Her the story behind it. You are right, all they want is your info. And it would of been my responsibility if I cashed that check. If something is too good to be true, it probably isn't. You did the RIGHT thing. I was a sucker for the tech support scam. I thought I was getting FREE support for Norton. Then me and the tech got pissy w/ each other when he demands money. I hung up on him. He gave me a super duper virus that required me to buy a new start up disk for my laptop.

I don't know any teller/bank in town that would deposit a check that size without checking out whether it was authentic or not. Oinized credit union. 2 yrs back

Saw this off of facebook: MORRIS POLICE DEPARTMENT The Morris Police would like to make residents aware of a new telephone scam in the area. Over the weekend, several Seneca business owners received calls from a man who identified himself as "Dave" from Com Ed. "Dave" told the business owners their Com Ed bill was overdue and they needed to go to Casey's and purchase a specific brand of prepaid debit cards. The business owner was then to call "Dave" back and give him the numbers off of the cards to pay their bill or their power would be shut off at 5 pm. If you receive any phone calls from people soliciting payment in this way, please contact the provider directly and verify your account status. Hey . It was worth a shot LOL. Points for trying Dave! It's nice to know you are making use of your retirement years and not just sitting around. lol

Oinized credit union. 2 yrs back Well, perhaps she did think the check looked real. I doubt that she would have been able to deposit it without first taking it higher up and proving it's authenticity though.

You would be right about that, anything higher than $2500 needs to be approved by a higher up.

You would be right about that, anything higher than $2500 needs to be approved by a higher up. And She did say that if I cashed it then I would be responsible for it. The check was real, but they just wanted my info on my banking, and I doubt they would have paid out the cash, the bank and I would of been in a bad situation.

I know a few years ago, when there was death in the family, I received a life insurance check for an x amount. The cashier at the bank, told me that she could only give me a certain amount of cash in hand and the rest had to be put in the savings account.

I got the IRS scam today. Since I keep my cell on silent, I was able to look up the SCAM number on the net. (Guess they didn't know I had a cancelled tax check.)
