I saw a banner draped across the building next to Shaw Appliances reading "Streator Kids Club" a few weeks ago, and wanted to post about this then, but didn't get the chance. Now we happened to get a copy of The Times and on the front page was this article: www.mywebtimes.com/news/local/streator-kids-club-to-offer-variety-of-children-s-activities/article_795efe02-e367-5420-9291-9912283080a7.htmlWhy are they quoted as saying in this article that Streator doesn't have anything like this for kids to do, other then the YMCA...is that not what The Streator Community Center is all about, and then some? "We've been in the area about a year and we just thought it was a need the community would like to utilize," Stephanie Cuceu said. "There's not much around for them to do, other than the Y, which is great." M

The streator community center is geared toward school age kids, is it not? And didn't they cancel their tutoring/after school program?
I think it's great that there's another place for kids to go. I just hope it's utilized.
After all, that's all I ever hear. That there's nothing for the kids to do.
Now, we have 3 places offering a variety of activities for kids! Great!

I agree. There is plenty for kids to do, if they only wanted to do it. Frankly, I am sick of hearing it. Make your own darn fun, like we did.

Programs and activities can be added and added. But, if people don't use them they won't last.

We didn't want to stop playing, unless we had too!!!!! I've told my little peanut M many many stories of how it was to me growing up as a kid ...I try to enforce that with the neighborhood kids here to this next generation as I did when her mom was little also with outdoor things they can do........................ Lemme tell you though, which I have to laugh...................... Mabel is still crotchety to our grand children as she was to our own children.............. M

The city has spent a large sum of money on the city park, band shell, and golf course for the spawn to entertain themselves. Stop complaining!

I agree that it is good to get out and play but it also has to be recognized that we don't live in quite as innocent a world anymore. I don't think everyone would feel confident letting their child have a newspaper route or run the Neighborhood all day until dusk without checking in. Times have changed some. I am not saying a kid should be chained indoors all the time.....you just have to be a little careful about some of the perils in your neighborhoods. there are more evil elements than just a cranky old neighbor that will yell at your kid...... Speaking of newspaper route, do they even allow children to have these now though, or are there any kids doing this? The only ones that I ever see are adults that are delivering the Streator / The Times paper? But I do agree though, I wouldn't recommend that job for any child to do, not today anyway. M
