It's that time of year. Halloween coming quickly. Candy galore for these young kids. But noticed the stores bypass Thanksgiving and already has Christmas items on the shelves. Who likes to decorate for all holidays? Which holidays brings in the income to the stores the best? Halloween is good for candy items. Thanksgiving is know for Turkeys. Christmas well for gifts. And don't forget that Central Church of Christ is having their Bethleham Walk December 2, 3, 4, 5th. if anyone is interested in that. Richard Street Bapist church is having a free meal on Thanksgiving this year. Not sure whom will have it for Christmas. Notice the last few years, that the restaurants have been opened on the holidays. Making it easier for families. Rather have the home made thing myself.

Traditional meal at home for the holidays for me. It's nice to have the left overs for supper. But cleaning up after making the meal is not so fun. I like bunyacalda(sp) for Thanksgiving. My wife like apricot rozak for Christmas and Easter.

I like to decorate for the Christmas Holidays, but not like I used to. I guess I like the electrical work and the planning of it all. I don't like where I'm living these days, and my house is dated, so I don't enjoy the decorating as much as I used to. (that's my excuse anyway)

we always have a family meal cooked by me. I still decorate a little but nothing like when I was younger and had the energy.

I like to decorate for Christmas, but a few years ago, there was young kids that stole and destroyed the decorations I put up. Then turned around did the same thing the following year. So, due to that I don't decorate outside any longer.

Mom decorated for Halloween. We went from an 8' tree to a 4' tree for Christmas. Still have some old bulbs from Streator when I was not even in school yet. They are ugly, but have great memories of my folks back in the 50's.

I am getting hungry for pumpkin pie. Especially since I'm making the pie out of the pumpkins I grew this past summer. Also carved pumpkins with our kids for Halloween. When people drove by, had a smile on their face because seeing an adult carving and enjoying carving with kids.

For some reason, I never threw them away. Now, I mix them in with my fancy ornaments, and they really do look nice. Glad I kept them, because it certainly does bring back memories from being a kid, and getting ready for the holidays.

I had to replace my huge tree because the stand broke. (I later learned those can be replaced ): ) i kept the height, but got one that slightly slimmer. Not the extremely skinny ones, though. I have too many must hang ornaments. That's what broke the stand...the weight of the ornaments.

Sadly stores seem to be skipping Halloween and thanksgiving and going straight to Christmas 2 months early. Even got a case of coke and all the cans have santa clause on them already.

Why Retailers Should Display Christmas Merchandise Before Halloween
10 | 18 | 14
retail holiday sales tipsIt's that time of the year ...
Time for the leaves to change...
Corn mazes to sprout up...
Pumpkin spice latte...
and the perennial favorite of writers everywhere... "I can't believe they already have Christmas stuff out and its not even Halloween."
Y-A-W-N.
Oh, excuse me, I suppose I should be in the camp talking about "the good old days" when Ralphie and Flick would admire the merchandise retailers had put in the shop windows during the annual Christmas parade at Higbees.
Wax on about when parents only purchased gifts for the kids during the Christmas season. (That hasn't happened in a generation - at least.)
Or maybe I should extol Nordstrom again because they won't put up decorations until Thanksgiving Day. Sorry, there is one basic reason all retailers should do this. Wallets.
Most customers have a mental budget of what they will spend for the holidays; for decorations, for gifts for the family, for the teachers/coaches, for the office - the works.
The sooner those customers have spent money earmarked for holiday purchases, the less they will spend when it comes the traditional time to think about buying holiday gifts. And that's the opportunity for all merchants to put out their holiday merchandise now.
This isn't something new but it is something smaller retailers have resisted and I suggest they get on board.
No, I'm not saying your holiday merchandise has to be in your display windows or in your prime selling space.
But there's a reason Target and Walmart started their holiday layaway plans early - they know Millennials. That generation is closer to my grandparents with their thriftiness. They know how to make their money go a long way and budget it accordingly.
With Apple's new iPads and iPhones expected to take a larger amount out of moms' and dads' holiday budgets, what will be leftover for any store will be smaller.
The big boxes put out holiday merchandise originally because they understood having it on the floor beat having it in a distribution center or stockroom. Whatever sold was a bonus.
And with many retailers carrying less staff, it can take longer to get the merchandise out onto the floor.
And let's face it Halloween doesn't have the breadth of merchandise across all categories like Christmas and holiday merchandise does.
So, if you are a retailer, find a way to get your holiday merchandise out there now before a competitor steals your customer and gets them to open their wallet now - leaving you with lower retail holiday sales.
