And it would make sense to have a dr. in charge and not some lay person. I wish he would have appointed the dr as the czar. Would have made more sense.

I think a Surgeon General is in order. Gosh, it has only been a year or so. We have an acting Surgeon General and a functioning office now, dont we? What difference would it really make to have an officially appointed one? I think, Obama nomintated one a year ago and because of his stance on guns being a health problem the right has blocked him. It would make more sense, to have one center person, from whom we get correct information and all on the same page. Not as it is now. They need to get it together.

Yes, one was nominated a year ago, and he was blocked. We also have a Surgeon General at this time, doing the job of the SG but only in a temporary position. With so many spokespersons talking about it, I dont think we can ever get everyone on the the same page with the same information. It seems like it wouldnt be a hard thing to do with phones, and internet and such, but we have the everyone from the President on down , giving out different information.

That is my point, but not a lay person. To be clear here: You would prefer the information to come from the Surgeon General? Wouldnt the director of the CDC be the most appropriate person? Would you consider the President, his press secretary, etc be considered lay persons? Should they refrain from giving any medical opinions and refer those questions to the CDC director to answer?

I think a Surgeon General is in order. Gosh, it has only been a year or so. I did some quick research on our acting Surgeon General. I think the question you should be asking is, why isnt he speaking on Ebola, considering his tenure with the CDC and being Deputy Surgeon General since 2010. Is he not allowed to address the public simply because he is only the acting Surgeon General? "Lushniak spent 16 years with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. While there, he worked on assignments in Russia, Kosovo and Bangladesh. He also worked at the World Trade Center site and with the CDC anthrax team. Lushniak joined the Food and Drug Administration in 2004. He served as the Chief Medical Officer, Office of Counter-terrorism Policy and Planning in the Office of the Commissioner before being named FDA Assistant Commissioner, Counterterrorism Policy and Director of the Office of Counterterrorism and Emerging Threats within the Office of the Commissioner, the following year. He was promoted to Rear Admiral (Upper Half) and named Deputy Surgeon General in 2010."

Isn't it odd that AIDS reached America in 1981, but Reagan did not address the issue until 1987? Was he not a "Fearless" leader too? Technically, AIDS reached the US in 1968 0r 1969 depending on who's research you go by. They however did not know what they were dealing with until around 1984, when the HHS secretary announces they found what they were had. We did not even have a TEST to check for infection until 1985, and in early 1986 Reagan instructed his Surgeon General to prepare a report on AIDS. So to compare Reagan's handling of the AIDS virus to Ebola is hardly reasonable. And yea, he really was a fearless leader.

Thanks for the addtional info Sniper.
I don't really think he was fearles, he started the taking down of the middle-class via unions AND shutting down mental instituions that we are now seeing that are needed by many ... ie a rise in shootings. Not even hospitals have been able to help the famlies seeking help for them.

I agree Blue. I tend to favor the GOP on many issues, but Reagan's leadership did a lot towards the undoing of the American Middle Class. bigdipper, Finally we can agree. g

I am afraid every one of his successors kind of followed his lead for trickle down economics, both GOP and Dems. We have a global economy, for good or bad . quote] bigdipper. I do believe President Clinton did not follow "follow trickle economics", I believe he raised taxes and balanced the budget. So, bigdipper when will that "Trickle Down" theory kick in and the Wealth, who continue to enjoy "W"'s Tax Cuts, start creating well paying jobs to help the Middle Class prosper? g
