Nope, not jealous at all, just realistic.
Almost time to get the heck out of this state........... I am sure you will gladly work for 30K a year ( 15 bucks an hour ) to support 80K teacher retirements........

How much longer can there be million dollar deficits? These school boards should be charged with dereliction of duty, allowing the unions and administrators to bully them around. Testostcular infusions should be considered!

Wow...you actually typed that. OK, I am the first to admit that I don't know for positive what is a reasonable salary, so sometimes I shoot from the hip at what I think sounds about right. I also go by what I think we can maybe afford. Let's be realistic. We are buried in debt and can't afford to continue as we have. So.....I did some looking. What is the lowest starting Teachers salary in Illinois for the current year? $23,879 That is actually DOWN from $25,470 the previous 2 years. $33,871 puts you into the 25th percentile. I just mentioned the 27k put you in the right neighborhood, that it might not be so unreasonable. We are not a Suburban school with a high cost of living. We are not an inner city so undesireable to live in that they receive combat pay. Our housing costs are very reasonable here. You put that number out there Butterbean, not me. I just agreed that it may be pretty close. 30-32k would put us WELL above minimum and much closer to the 25th percentile. Until the time comes that our budget is healthier, I think wage concessions will have to be considered as a cost cutting measure. I was being facetious. You obviously don't have a clue as to what goes on in our local schools. Talk to someone at the junior high or high school about our lovely local Polar Pop Family student scholars.

Are you nuts? Woefully wrong info... Seems Sniper is right in the strike zone again Butterbean. I am sure some of them were Administrators, but that is some crazy numbers for our little community. According to this I see a number of Streator retirees in excess of 80k annual pension. Looks like a lot of the people on the list retired at around 60 or just before and most of them contributed about 3.5 percent of their own pension. www.taxpayersunitedofamerica.org/wp-content/uploads/4LaSalle-CountyTeachers-Pensions.pdfI know one teacher on that list who recently retired. He said he was going back to work since he couldn't support his life style with his pension money. Are you kidding me? I could find a way to "rough" it on $70K something a year, even after all the deductions come out of it.

Wait just a minute. The vast majority of these people are administrators, not teachers. You can bet that the vast majority of the teachers on THIS list are all over 60 when they retired, are in the 70k range, and put in 30-40+ years into their profession. The administrators are the ones hosing the system...big time.

I know that our Schools have some kids that are disruptive and don't want to learn. I know that makes it more difficult for the Teacher to teach and the rest of the students to learn. Perhaps they could actually start flunking the kids that are not doing the work or showing up. Put them in a special needs class that is run by a non-traditional teacher. Perhaps an ex-con that served time and is better equipped to actually reach those kids. Give them some field trips to the Pontiac Pen., whatever it takes to get through to some of them. The ones that still fall behind perhaps need stronger motivation. If they are not getting the encouragement to get an education from home, remove them from the home and make them guardians of the State and remove financial assistance the family was getting for them. Paying Teachers more money isn't going to make those kids want to learn is it? I know, I know, there are all kinds of laws, rules and regulations for not being able to do any of those things, but we do need some solutions. The system we have is certainly broken and not serving anyone. You can't tell me for a second that we are best serving any of our kids or at a reasonable price with the system we have in place. Something needs to give. Just for fun, break it down for us...that is, your salary schedule for teachers and administrators and the cost per student to provide our Streator Polar Pop-ulation with a world class education. Remember, this is 2014, not 1974...and remember, you're actually going to have to find people to work for your compensation package.

I agree that the Administrators are hosing the taxpayers, but they aren't the only ones. You know this, I know this, and every day, more and more taxpayers eyes are opened to the perks.

Easy, either drop the salary and keep the retirement, or keep the salary and make the Educator pay for their own retirement. Simple enough, but you don't want to hear that. BTW, world class education? Have you seen the education provided our kids?

$30-35k starting salary, no step increase on a salary schedule, raise when times are good and the district has money, insurance with about 30% per month contribution with a $1,000 deductible. 401k retirement plan with matching contribution from district.

The lottery money goes to education. What the state did was divert the money they had been putting towards education and put it somewhere else. The lottery replaced money not put in addition to. What has caused the most problems for school districts is the state giving districts less money for general state aid. If the state would find our district instead of at 87% we would have a balanced budget as would most other districts. We lose about a million and a half dollars per year as a result, Ok, so now I am yet more confused then. The State put the lottery money where exactly, and really how much money over the years and years of the lottery being in high swing has it ALL gone to then? I mean seriously HOW much money here are we even talking about, and who can actually prove WHERE it went? All I hear of are schools closing or begging for more funds, yet aren't receiving, WHY not? So then who in fact are padding their own pockets? M

Now that the lottery has been sold I have no idea whats going on..... Quinn says things are getting fixed but I believe we had record tax revenues but this years budget is still in the red... And thats just what I think I read somewhere if I am wrong please supply a source...

So pray tell HOW they could just automatically set up a "lottery" to generate revenue for the schools and highways...then just up and use it somewhere else.........are you SERIOUS? So, what it then boils down to is that that whole promotion of the lottery was nothing more then a big farce! Yet more (politician's) pockets got padded, more raises, etc? Schools that in fact were suffering terribly before this began are now WORSE off then ........ BECAUSE of, that's an oxymoron if I ever heard of one. Not to mention the roads.............. WTH !!!! This ALL is just sickening! M

Before the lottery the state funded education with X amount of money. When the lottery started the state still put the same amount of money in education but now only had to put in what the lottery fell short of in funding it 100%. What money the state now didn't have to put in they now used somewhere else. So if education was funded by the state with $100,000,000 before lottery and lottery generates $75,000,000 the state only puts in $25,000,000 and uses the other wherever it wanted.

Now that FOT is a crock o'crap!!!! So, in reality that was just a snow-job then for people to "think / or ASSUME" that they were doing a good thing by participating in the lottery to do a double standard in ............one that they could in fact actually win money, then two... but if they didn't then it was all going for good causes.......... IE: Schools / Roads? WOW............. friggin politics at it's finest then! UNREAL.................... M
