Well it was confirmed to me that Satches and Joe's buildings were both sold, and are going to be in the process of being renovated. I guess from what I was told that the two guys who purchased these two buildings are planning on tearing Joe's down, since the fire there, the building is in pretty rough shape. Satches though on the other hand... will, just like The Bullpen... have to make this restaurant handicapped accessible, and everything will of course have to be up to code..which will take quite some time. YAY.............. I am so glad to hear this news, thought I would share. M

About Satches, I do remember back in the day he would host Eurchre tournaments. Perhaps Mondays? Anyway, it was $5 a person and you were supposed to bring a partner. Losers would move to the next table, Winners staid put. He would sell tip boards and drinks, whoever did best after a round of 10 games won a payout. Then he fed us all a fried chicken dinner when we were done. What a deal. We all felt like Winners for 5 bucks, and didn't mind supporting the cause with buying a few tips. That Euchre is a funny game. Sit heavy, but make it weak. Sometimes you could call it very aggressively and do OK and other times sit in the bushes and set the other guys. Of course all that activity was and is forbidden now, maybe that was all part of the fun. Human nature to be just a little bit of an outlaw like you are getting away with something just a little bit. What.........didn't you go downstairs in the basement where all the BIG action was a happening.............lol ?? M

I like VFW, Toppings & DaLee's chix. I'll have to try Krogers. I also like Spagetti from Toppings & DaLee's, but usually eat something I don't cook great! I didn't know there were "basement" games @ Satches, but did play in many Euchre Tournys. I still have a One dollar bill I won from a farmer, who to this day tries to buy it back from me! i have the date & his name on it.

Does anyone remember the farce when the State's Attorney was trying to raid Satch's place for gambling?

Oh he!! no. I am not a gambler. Certainly didn't want to watch the wheel spin. $5 is all my Momma let's me spend. LOL...I wouldn't ever "let" the big guy join in down there either! There were some pretty high rollers that were quite regular there. Regardless we liked their food, and even just going to meet up with people at the bar. M
