Awww CP there is a reasoning that one is one of my faves....the boyfriend I had before I met my hubby used to stand out in front of Millers corner on Main that's how we met, and this became "our" song. I walked uptown then, and still do. Every time I get to that corner I think of this song. Bittersweet.................... M

I always liked Seger. He was at one of the local casinos last year, but we didn't make it there. He lives fairly close to our daughter. Kid Rock lives even closer. We saw Johnny Rivers a couple of weeks ago in St. Charles.

Beautiful Loser is one of his best. I also like his rendition of Nutbush City limits. He does it better than Tina Turner, who wrote the song, ever did imo.

I had no idea Seger played any smaller intimate venues. That would be pretty cool. Maybe a warmup for a supporting tour??? I just read Don Felder's tell all book. Don was a member of the Eagles that plays guitar and was largely responsible for Hotel California. Henley and Frey emerged as the 2 main writers and singers, kind of like Lennon/McCartney. Well Henley/Frey felt they are worth more and imposed a new arrangement on Felder and the others. Felder had been with the band longer and had an equal share in the old company and entitle to an equal share. Felder was forced from the group and there was a subsequent law suit. Felder is out, Henley/Frey have egos larger than the Empire State building. Even though I love their music and thoroughly enjoyed the time I saw them in concert, I refuse to pay the exorbitant fee they command now. This tour will be interesting though. They have included original member Bernie Leadon to play with them. Bernie left the band in 75' and was actually buddies with Felder and got Felder in the band. I think it is Frey/Henley's attempt to appease fans, smooth over ruffled feathers, still have a cash cow and maybe Leadon realizes it's a chance at making some major money by playing one more time with the two ego maniacs. I think it is also a chance for Frey/Henley to dig at Felder just a little more with another FU having his old buddy fill in his shoes. Seger is a great live act. He is old now, but seems to enjoy performing. I know I still enjoy his music and am looking forward to hear his new stuff. Speaking of the Eagles and Seger: Other times I'll just sit down and say, 'I wanna write a song called this.' That's how 'Beautiful Loser' happened. I just loved the title, which I got from a book of poetry from Leonard Cohen called Beautiful Losers, with an 's,' and I thought it was a really cool title.
Actually, I wrote three or four songs called 'Beautiful Loser' until I came up with the one that worked. But that's a pretty rare thing." Glenn Frey, a member of the Eagles and a friend of Seger's, was one of the first people Seger played this for. Frey loved it and helped Seger tweak it before it was released.

Casinos are the new county fairs, places where aging musicians can still get gigs.
