On a POSITIVE note here I have noticed that there are fall planters planted uptown on every block, which look very nice. Hopefully they will be out of harms way and stay up there. I don't know if the Downtown Beautification is responsible for putting these up there on Main Street or whomever, but they do look great....and thank you for taking the initiative in doing so. I noticed also that a new business has just opened up in the old Chef Tom's ... which I didn't catch the name but I do believe it to be some type of a restaurant, Mexican restaurant, perhaps? Thought I would share here........................... M

Thanks M, seems you have your fingers on the pulse of the town today. I will keep an eye out as well. Because I do walk uptown and live close to daily then it's easy for me to notice..when some just might drive right on by, and not. These LITTLE things do add up in making a difference, every little thing does help significantly. M

Well they have their sign up. I hope it is TEX-MEX, rather than Mexican food.

Sorry if this is not an appropriate place for this.... I have been on a music kick lately. I was just thinking of some of the old time local entertainers. Was'nt Red Tuck and J J D1ckens both popular 'one man bands' and played a lot of local bars? Does anyone have mellow live entertainment? Not screaming loud full bands or anything. Just a piano lounge or maybe a couple guys on acoustic guitar or even an open mic night. I think something like that would be fun for the patrons, affordable for the bar and a decent way for someone with talent to supplement their income. Red was in a 3-pc. band & JJ dickens had a band too. There was a one-man-band guy from Henry who used to play 6 & 12 string guitar & harmonica out @ the old Town n Country. He was playing in "Rock-of-Ages" last I heard. I haven't seen many, but some play @ the Starved Rock Lounge.

I saw that the old Cozy Corner is open again as Janney's(?) Cozy Corner. I have heard that name with other establishments from the past. Where did they operate before? Landmark? Anyway, I had no idea they were up and operating. She didn't close, just shortened her hours. She used to be where Gabbys (?) is,pre-70's, before it was Jim & Lettys.

Perhaps Light Up Streator committee put those up, along with the corn stalks / shucks surrounding all of the trees. I don't know who is responsible, but they look very nice. M

Well they're open...but they definitely need better signage up though. For the life of me, I couldn't tell you if you paid me what the sign read. Best of luck though to this new restaurant, so glad to see this building occupied in such a short time. M

Beulah has been there at that location now for along time BD, just recently though there was a woman outside painting the building with all the little animals all around it. BS is right...the hours there are pretty short. We used to love though when we could go and get breakfast or a cheeseburger basket @ 2 am when the bars closed....... many many moons ago that is, lol. LOL, yup, that's what I recalled too was when they were an after hours place. I could have sworn that 'Big Betty' was cooking up there many moons ago. I certainly had no idea that they were open all this time......boy am I bad. So are they a Breakfast and Lunch place? Big Bettys was located in the next blk. N., @ the S/E corner of Hickory & Bloomington Sts. I'm not sure what time they close, but they are def. a Breakfast and Lunch place.
