If you don't support local businesses with your dollars, you will spend your dollars in gas money to your out of town employer. Show me your savings. g Why should anyone "show" you their "savings?" You won't even tell anyone the name of your so-called business.

Go wherever you want to shop, but don't whine about stores closing and no one hiring in Streator if you choose to shop elsewhere. How did that work for you in the past? g

Except for Amazon.com, I don't do much shopping out of town. Because of Netflix and TV, I rarely go to the movies.

I don't think so. Do they donate to support, local sports programs? Of course they don't. Oh, and I would enjoy you showing how many boxes of Girl Scout cookies your beloved on-line stores purchased. That's okay though, you are rest on the "pension" your Nanny Employer granted you and what the U.S. Program of Social Security provides to you. What will solve the problem is when You and Your Alter Ego Snipe can find out the name of my business. You are so bogus, you sound like an "Ambulance Chaser". Oh, and your address again is....................? g \ g

I was walking down Main Street the other day and I heard a number of salesmen talking. As best as I can recall the discussion, it went something like this.
1st Salesman
Cash for the merchandise, cash for the button hooks
3rd Salesman
Cash for the cotton goods, cash for the hard goods
1st Salesman
Cash for the fancy goods
2nd Salesman
Cash for the noggins and the piggins and the frikins
3rd Salesman
Cash for the hogshead, cask and demijohn.
Cash for the crackers and the pickles and the flypaper.
4th Salesman
Look whatayatalk, whatayatalk, whatayatalk, whatayatalk, whatayatalk?
5th Salesman
Wheredayagitit?
4th Salesman
Whatayatalk?
1st Salesman
Ya can talk, ya can talk, ya can bicker, ya can talk,
ya can bicker, bicker, bicker, ya can talk, ya can talk,
ya can talk, talk, talk, talk, bicker, bicker, bicker,
ya can talk all ya want but is different than it was.
Charlie
No it ain't, no it ain't, but you gotta know the territory
3rd Salesman
Why it's the Model T Ford made the trouble,
made the people wanna go, wanna get, wanna get,
wanna get up and go seven, eight, nine, ten, twelve,
fourteen, twenty-two, twenty-three miles to the county seat
1st Salesman
Yes sir, yes sir
3rd Salesman
Who's gonna patronize a little bitty two by four kinda store anymore?

Speaking of.... Some may recall that the cast had been chosen & I think rehearsals had begun when the tornado took Engle Lane "out" for the season. I heard scuttlebutt on the street recently, that the summer youth production, in the next couple of years, may again have our kids singing about the youth "right here in river city"! :-)

Here is what drives me CRAZY!!!! We just lost a movie theatre because it wasn't supported by the community. People were going out of town to watch movies and not support something local, yet people will say, "There is nothing to do in Streator", when in fact there was, but it wasn't supported. Weren't you already there, without anyone driving you? I think you are a little late in trying to get people to support the local theatre,. Maybe you should have practiced supporting it before it was boarded up. Don't you remember several months ago when I was trying to get you and others to support the theatre by posting review clips from the critically acclaimed Lego Movie? Wasn't it your closed mind to an animated film being able to entertain adults that kept you from supporting the Majestic? Now that the place is boarded up, don't you think it is a little late for you to be giving others crap for not going more? I remember having to argue with you about whether it should be doing more business and you talking the place down, saying that there was nothing unique about its stadium seated balcony, 40' wide screen, and movie palace atmosphere that people couldn't get in surrounding communities. Now that it is boarded up, you are trying to sound like an advocate against the lack of support for it? Maybe you should try to correct the underlying problem as to why it could not survive, the rough reputation that keeps many people and their money away from our downtown, the reputation that keeps getting substantiated and perpetuated each time their is another drunken street brawl here. Too bad our Mayor not only doesn't have a solution for the problem but doesn't want others to discuss solutions either. "Cleaning up Streator and its image should not be politicized", is what he says.

We supported the Majestic. We would have went more if the movie choices were better. They never got half of the blockbusters that came out. The film companies wouldn't let them have the 1st run movies for some reason, then unless they went digital. After they did, it was soon closed.

Oldtimer, while I agree with you to a certain extent, I think you are taking it to extremes. I frequent the restaurants here in town on a daily basis. But, once in awhile, it's nice to go elsewhere.
I work out of town, but very infrequently do I get gas anywhere but streator. I never get groceries out of town, and only go to our walmart. I shop our Ace, and our dollar stores, etc. Like you, I don't understand why anyone would go out of town for something that's offered here. But, when you get the majority of your purchases in town, there's nothing wrong with occasionally going out of town. Jmho

I said in a follow up post that people do like an occasional change and the chance to "get out of town for a night".

And also the way they rigged the credit scam, the more someone does a credit check it lowers your score, there are hard checks and soft checks such as a major credit card would be a soft check, they really are making the middle class obsolete. Like car insurance for instance, it's not the driving style, it is the credit score you have....... scam for a losing economy in my opinion. (GOOD LUCK AMERICA)
