What is everyone planning this year for Halloween? I was thinking that we could see if light up Streator or Scc could start up a Halloween parade at night and add that to tradition of halloween. One of the best halloween parades I have seen on tv was the Galena Illinois Halloween parade last year. It was night time and they had all kinds of floats lit up (some scary looking floats) and people both participants and spectators dressed in Halloween costumes to add to the effects of the holiday celebrations. The only float I thought that didn't fit the theme was the candy land float. Doesn't have anything to do with Halloween.

Lol, rocket, how does CANDY land not have anything to do with Halloween? Lol, doesn't it have EVERYTHING to do with it? If you don't agree, just ask the next kid you see

Sure candy is part of Halloween, but the candy land float does not fit in. Halloween is a time of year to be spooky and scary. Candy land doesn't fit that theme. Just a big smiley face singing the candy land can song. Nothing scary or spooky about that.
How scary and intimidating is this?

My take on halloween would be more likely to include candy land, rather than any scary stuff. ( this football game is scaring me enough:( I stayed in the car after we had to leave the stands, I'm watching from a distance & listening to the radio. The first game was hard to watch, this one is almost too much. So many injuries.)

I don't ever remember dressing as anything scary. I always wanted to be a princess, or something funny. That's the fun of working on your costume. The better your imagination, the more awesome your costume. One of the funniest I've seen, that I can remember, was a guy dressed in a chick costume, with magnets stuck all over. Baahaahaaa

A place I worked at had a very good motto. "If it's you're idea, YOU head it to get the ball rolling!" So, with that being said, good luck on YOUR venture!!

ROCKET..................... you know I / we have all the props to DO a yard such as, but I will add much better then. THANKS to the ASSTARDS who stole all of our Halloween fencing and posts............... to SCRAP............. that yearly we'd wind back up and store next to our garage along with the steel posts that we had to stand on a step ladder with a sledge hammer to put into the ground TO fence in our yard! It's the kids here who we did this for many years that suffer. No way that we could put anything out in this town in our yard WITHOUT fencing it all in, we learned throughout the years, unfortunately. UN- like the youtube video you posted...which is quite SAD! Even then we've had things stolen within arms reach thru the fencing, it was still worth our efforts to do this..hence the fencing didn't keep thieves away!!! And THEN...............to only have friggin THIEVES in this town...................... STEAL THE FENCE and POSTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It just sickens me that thieves in this town just run amuck..with noooooooooooooo repercussions what so ever!!! We were handing out at last count about 1000 treat bags. We had people come from so many other towns besides Streator, it was unreal!!! THANKS AGAIN you friggin THIEVES.......................................... we planned on doing this again because now our lil peanut M is old enough to enjoy this Halloween that we did. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.............. does anyone know where I can again buy concrete reinforcing fencing...and does anyone have any of the steel T posts for chain link fencing................. please let me know, thanks. IF we get this again, then we'll do this Halloween yard again....................... M

Mnm, sorry to hear about the theft. I have heard that these scrappers have even been breaking Into vacant houses and gutting out the pipes and electrical wiring. They are even stealing the central AC unit outside the house's too. Michael's had a 100ft section of chain link fencing awhile back this .summer .
May not hurt to go up there and see if it is or isn't your fence sitting there.
If you haven't done it yet, also if you plan on doing this again, invest in a good dvr security system to watch over the yard for thieves. Walmart has some good security camera systems on their website, alittle pricey but just the right thing for home security. And I think laws should be changed to really regulate recycling centers to require id and proof of ownership before taking anything from anyone that comes into the place except for aluminum cans. That might deter some of the thefts going on. And having cameras in place to video the person bringing in the stuff to help identify possible thieves.

" ... proof of ownership" won't work. Most things peeps re-cycle are old, gifts bought @ garage sales, auctions etc. W/out proof/receipts!
BTW, why NO response to MY post about heading up the Halloween Parade?

BTW, why NO response to MY post about heading up the Halloween Parade? I think he might have meant how Buckman's in Ottawa do things at that recycling center, in which I AGREE Michael's should also be doing the same............ ID's and also on video tape FOR the Police it states (if needed)for everything that gets brought in for recycling. Now they Buckman's run a tight ship over there, and I highly doubt that they have guys riding bicycles with carts towed behind them coming in there to cash in for ANYTHING because of!!!! Really with the amount of theft of STUFF that we do have in this town, why doesn't the City MAKE him regulate ALL transactions that come in there? Would that NOT cut down then on theft because of?? That just floors me being RIGHT down a block from our Main Street drag that they can't make these regulations. I would think that the SPD gets just a lil sick of continually dealing with theft, and then going for follow-ups to Michael's....WTH?? I don't foresee a Halloween parade. The Labor Day one was pretty good, we were in it...along with of course alot of political stuff too. can always plan on that with any election forthcoming, ugh. We are planning on being in the Thanksgiving / Christmas one though. You just can't get people that interested in parades being in them...let alone now the attendance is low too. Just saying..................... M
