I thought there was something this weekend, but I didn't note it on my event calendar. It's been a crazy week. I will see if I can remember.
Anyone else remember?

Southern IL- the Shawnee National Forrest, especially the Makanda Area & the Makanda Inn. Giant City park, the lodge is much like the one at Starved Rock state park. In the park there's a zip line as well as other fun stuff to do. And don't miss "Fat-Mans-Squeexe". Mr R made it through while a student, and again about 15 years ago, but I don't think he'll be doing it again:-) Great food in the lodge. Not far away you can eat at The 17th Street Bar and Grill (locations in both Murphysboro and Marion.) This place has won more awards than you can shake a rib bone at.

I confess, I am a bit of a geek. I LIKE museums, zoos and all kinds of places some people might find boring. I find agriculture and farms interesting. Well, I heard about this mega dairy farm over in Indiana that not only conducts tours but is a bona-fide TOURIST ATTRACTION. It is called Fair Oaks Farm and it is located almost straight over from us past Kankakee. Their Milk production is enough to meet the needs of the entire Chicago AND INDY markets COMBINED. They have a live birthing viewing area, playgrounds, cafes, tour buses, an enormous milking parlor, and an entire hog operation as well. I really want to go check this place out. Has anyone been there or heard of it before? fofarms.com/adventures/dairy-adventureWhile you are in the area, you can stop at one of the two nudist colonies in Roselawn, Ind.

Grand has to grow 2", then we r doing it. I'm sure she will do at least that over the winter. Also want to rappel. Lol, need to get those done, before I get too old

Zip lines are a blast. We did one last summer. Where at? Was there a height/weight requirement? My grand is 8. She loves rock climbing and wants to do a zipline. We were at merrimac caverns this spring, and they had one that went over the river. She wasn't tall or heavy enough. But, I've seen pics on fb of kids doing it.

It was at Indiana Beach and it went over water, too. There was a height/weight requirement but I don't remember what it was and couldn't find the info on their website. It was a blast. www.ziptour.com/locations/indiana-beach/ I liked the Skycoaster Ride the best. It was a combination of sky-diving/hang gliding. Dropping you from 110'. We did that one a few times.

Thanks. Guess she will have to wait till next year. Gives grandma time to work on fear of height. Lol. My ex was a sky dive instructor. Even after our divorce, he used to try to get me to jump, and even used the example that if his mom could do it, that I would enjoy it, too. Lol, I had pictures of him pulling to open the chute and instead, me releasing from his chest. His statement to the investigators "I don't know how I pulled the wrong cord, wink wink" And yes, I know that's not how your secured. Just seriously not comfortable jumpin out of a perfectly good plane attached to my ex, and he's the only one with a parachute

Can't wait for a ride, to see the Fall colours. It is a beautiful time of year. Just be mindful it is harvest Season. All the farmers are busy trying to bring in the crop and a years worth of income for them. You might need a Doctor or Lawyer, a Fireman or a Policeman a few times in your life, but you need a Farmer 3x a day every day of your life. What they do IS important to each and every one of us. Please slow down for them, watch out for them and have a little patience. I know most folks do, but I see a few just get impatient. Allow a little extra time if you are going back roads. COLOURS...TOSH are you from the UK? Yes everyone please be careful for the farmers, soon they will be harvesting, if they haven't yet started already. Pretty scary out on country roads especially if they have a hill, or curve to them...you come upon the farmers way way too quickly. I guess I am a GEEK too then as well. I have always loved museums, exhibits of all kinds, festivals where actual artisans are doing their craft, monuments, and historical places ..anything related to history I tend to be enthralled with....then again that was kind of drilled into me as a young child, which I thank my parents for introducing me to. Starved Rock State Park now should be getting very pretty! My lil peanut M has never been there, and we are all planning a trip there to hike all the trails, hopefully next month. I am giddy over this, and can't wait...of course I won't utter a word about St. Louis Canyon to that child that is, lol. M

Our daughter gave a speech to a state meeting of the DAR at Starved Rock about a week ago. They tried to recruit her when she explained that she is double eligible to be a member and that she had local roots.
