At no time in my life would I have waited an hour to be seated in a restaurant. My limit has always been fifteen minutes.

So, you must be someone very important, or just use the "drive thru" windows. Oh, and as a "big thinker" such as you would deny the forum of your home address? g

The question you pose MaskedMan is one that has been an ongoing topic of conversation in our home all weekend. The feature known as "checking in" for face book users, pinpoints where one is & provides a lInk, so others can know all about the spot another FB user may be enjoying. The feature seems benign when described in the terms I used, but say there's a family reunion at Squirrels Leap (the home of wealthy & widowed Great Aunt Celia) and folks "check in" from there, then the locatiin is mapped & pinpointed & voilla- Great Aunt Celia is a target for whatever mischief may come to whoevers mind....... We went to Bullheads last night (no wait, had a reservation). I had gone there only once before the closing, but my Father in law & his late wife were regular Friday night customers during the '70's & early '80's so he was our historian. "It's the same." We had a sweetheart for our waitress, she had to be training as the place was busy, but we were her only table :-) My F.I.L. had fried cod, that he enjoyed very much, MrR got fried chicken that he said was very tasty (rivaled Chippers:) I had shrimp & it was very good. We will likely return as my F.I.L.'s older sister used to go there, but she was unwell yesterday. My F.I.L. made an interesting comment "well, seems they're drawing an older crowd." And I agreed, there were less than a half dozen middle aged folks & I spotted only 2 teens each with some of the middle aged people.

hc, was this what you mentioned from FB? "So, many people have been curious about the reopening of Bull Head's. Well, 4 those who have never heard of it, or r 2 young 2 remember it, Bull Head's is was of my gram's (Karol) restaurants, n the last 1 she still owns. She opened the doorsaround 1970, n had quite an amazing run (especially during the casual/fine dining haydays of the 70's, 80's, n 90's...b4 most of he chain restaurants came into the area). Unfortunately in 2006, we closed the doors. My uncle Tom was extremely ill, n battling a very serious addiction n sickness. Many of u know of that battle, n we as family appreciate the support u gave us. We lost Tom in Feb of 2013, n we miss him so very much. He was a very funny n loving man. This devastated my grams, n understandably so. Tom was so critical 2 the business as the head chef, "steak genious", n just as part of the family. Recently, we began making improvements 2 reopen. Improvements include brand new soffit, facial, paint, lights, handicapped parking, handicapped car port, a/c units, plumbing, n so much more...from the basement 2 the kitchen. So yes, we r open. We held a very nice private party last Tues, n officially opened last night (Fri). The food has already received fantastic reviews, n the majority of the menu is the same. We do ask u 2 bear with us thru the small steps 4ward n temp setbacks, as we have many new faces working here. We still could use a few waitresses if interested, n only accept cash or check thru this wknd (we have been battling the credit/debit card company with sending us the correct machine n parts). So please, come out n enjoy a great meal again. U can find me either hosting or tending bar (96 different booze brands, 20 different beers, 16 different wines, n 12 different sodas 2 choose from...so we do have variety n options). Whether choosing the chicken, pepper steak, surf-n-turf (steak-n-lobster, chicken " Karol" (my personal favorite), or the famous "Tomer" (grand filet wrapped in bacon), come on back n c how much changed, as well as how much has actually remained the same after 8 years. Hours r 4-9 on Wed thru Sat, 3-8 on Sun, n closed on Mon n Tues. We r located south of Lostant, n just north of the 18 n 51 intersection on route 2-51. For reservations or carryouts, please call 815-368-9382."

LOL Dog. Satches was sold years ago but the deal blew up. I think it was in pretty rough shape and since it had closed was subject to some new standards that were no longer grandfathered. Satches used to enjoy a great location so close to where thousands of people worked. It's location is far from an advantage now. Good Luck if someone wants to give it a go. The last I had heard that Lori and her husband were going to open Satches back up, since she is Satches grand daughter. With running Bull Dogs I heard that they opted to not take on this restaurant too then as well. Maybe they did sell it though to someone else. That would be great to see that place up and running tho, and yes offer good steaks and lobster again ! Look at Ottawa...they have Woody's Steak House, Hanks, and Montes...all REAL restaurants and not just "fast" food joints per say. And even Naplate has some fine dining restaurants too. So WHY can't Streator have as least one? I see everyone keeps talking about this garlic salad dressing from BullHeads. Makes me wonder if this is the recipe from the old Tammy's Steak House. If so........ OMG that dressing was to die for!!! I have tried to find that recipe, and tried to duplicate it..but alas nothing can come close. M

Come on guys, whatever Bullheads was ....what.....15 or more years ago doesn't have much to do with whatever is going in now other than the same building. Is it even the same owners now? I bet they must have leased it to someone. Good Luck to them. It's a challenging economy, but if they do a good job, could be rewarding. The G-son re-opened it. see my post today, it was by him. MnM, we have 3 nice supper clubs & I'd bet you can get good steak n Lobster @ them. See the thread about shopping in town.

M Those (3) places you mentioned mnm are very high price eating places, people in Streator are looking for the bargain, so in those words, they wouldn't fly here in town. jmo

Hanks isn't extremely high priced. For the service, I think it is quite reasonably priced. We have sworn off both Woodys and Montes, way overpriced for what we got the last few times there....... Steaks were not what they formerly had been and prices were up.
We need to slip out to Bullheads, miss that place!

I wouldn't say "people in Streator are looking for the bargain" I know MANY who go out for a nice dinner. I guess if you don't go, you don't see them! I like Hanks too, snipe. Loved their Fri. nite buffets too!

I will take the Pines, over any of those from Ottawa, any day of the week. It is a 'REAL' restaurant.

I must admit I've never been to the Pines..Having spent the later part of my youth in the Lostant and Leonore area I will check out the Bullheads again. One of the best meals I've had lately was at lunchtime down at the Rosegarden though.

It's not open anymore, but I loved the Red Door too! Victor was the one who cooked some dishes @ your table, when he first opened it in the 70s. Steak Diane, Cherries Jubilee, Bananas Foster .....
