RIP Majestic. It is a shame that Streator can't have a family entertainment venue. Protecting the bars and letting them do whatever they want to seems to be more important to our City leaders. Over-serving and excessive bar violence has won out over family entertainment in Streator.

The revenue sales of liquor must be doing very well then the retail businesses are doing . Which business do you think the city would support the most? The ones that bring in the most tax revenue to the city will be the ones that the city will support. The last time I looked the city issued 30 liquor licenses. Seems a lot for a town this size. You need to see it for what it is. You follow any business that makes a lot of money. The rest shall perish.
It is ALL about MONEY.

I think that it would be very short sighted to think that the tax revenue from the bars is enough to make up for the lose of other businesses, or that it is somehow good for our community to not create a business environment more suited to support other business as well. You may be right. It may be all about money. I was told by a friend of a bar owner that brown paper bags get delivered to City hall is how illegal activities are allowed to go on. That would explain why I can't get enough enforcement of our laws concerning the bars and patrons. It would also explain why our City leaders are so reluctant to talk about solutions to the problems. Our Mayor said in response to the problem that he would like to have more officers, but we just can't afford it and offered no other solution. Really? We can afford to pay near the top of the pay scale for a City Manager without even considering others, borrow hundreds of thousands for amenities at City Park, and plan to spend millions for a City Hall renovation, but we can't afford to have enough officers on the streets to enforce our laws and create a business environment conducive to a family entertainment business? Obviously there is something keeping them from solving these problems.

Brown paper bags delivered to City Hall? That's a serious allegation, a stupid one and one you have absolutely no proof of. Keep throwing crap at the wall and see what will stick. You're ridiculous.

Wow! I didn't know that the Streator manager was being paid "near the top of the scale." Admittedly, the numbers in the article cited are three years old, but all of the top guys made over $200,000 a year. forthegoodofillinois.org/blog/2012/05/top-13-big-dog-village-manager-salaries-il/
I always learn from Kyle's posts.

I didn't make the allegation, it was a friend of a bar owner who told me about it. I'm just telling what I was told because it is the most plausible reason that I have been given as to why they don't enforce our laws to create a business environment for people of Streator to be able to have a movie palace downtown. It is much more believable to me than a Police Chief telling me that there is no law keeping the bar owners from serving someone who is already intoxicated, which was clearly not the truth, or our Mayor trying to claim that we don't have the right to talk about the problem in City Park.

Thank you for pointing out my mistake. I am always happy to correct myself when it is pointed out that I am wrong. Here is my corrected statement: Our Mayor said in response to the problem that he would like to have more officers, but we just can't afford it and offered no other solution. Really? We can afford to pay near the top of the pay scale for communities our size for a City Manager without even considering others, borrow hundreds of thousands for amenities at City Park, and plan to spend millions for a City Hall renovation, but we can't afford to have enough officers on the streets to enforce our laws and create a business environment conducive to a family entertainment business? You're grasping at straws Kyle. As always. You repeated what "someone" told you therefore you present it as fact. You're ridiculous.

Oh, I dunno, seems as if it would just be a continuation of past practices......... They didn't always use brown paper bags, one enterprising individual used packs of Ciggies to get his gratuity. Of course, that was back before it wasn't cool to be seen with a pack of smokes.

You're grasping at straws Kyle. As always. You repeated what "someone" told you therefore you present it as fact. You're ridiculous. The only thing I presented as fact was that it was something that someone told me. I explained right from the start that it was something that a friend of a bar owner had told me, not that I knew it to be a fact. Don't you agree though that it is a much better explanation than a Police Chief's claim that there is no law keeping bar owners from serving people who are already intoxicated, or our Mayor's claim that he gets to decide what subjects can be discussed in City Park?

Those dumb lawyers would call Kyle's most recent "fact" attack as tertiary heresay, but it is a good way do avoid defamation charges.

My response is posted on my blog. Kyle, My response is posted here. I'll give you about a year and a half in your new endeavor. I really do wish you well. Perhaps you would do better by investing your efforts and in your new "home town" rather than trying to tell those of us remaining in Streator what to do. Oh, and I do respect your Constitutional Rights of Free Speech. I hope you respect my Constitutional Rights to tell you I disagree with your position. I feel your pain, knowing no one really cares that you left Streator. We may have questions about how you wrap up your son's business. That is important to those who remain. g The only reason I asked that question is because of my friends merchandise on consignment being up in that store, and I told her that I would try to find out for her. You wouldn't believe how often I walk by there, and people will literally be driving up and stopping to ask me, if they are open. THAT'S when I also wondered how consignment things were left in a locked store belonging to clients. Then I get crucified here that I was in ATTACK mode, and PO'ed then, yeah ok. Even though G there are signs posted in the storefront windows "FOR SALE / LEASE".........he is still in business, ummmm, ok. Guess I don't understand how one can as was asked, commute back and forth from Illinois and Kentucky to conduct ANY business. Must be a blonde thing on my part then, I guess? M
