We foreseen most all this trouble 21 years ago, so we pulled our kids out of School and Home Schooled them. a lot of propaganda in them text books even back then.

I can hear the supporters of CC denying the possibility of any "agendas" while reading this list! What were we saying about the emperors new clothes.,-)

The whole mess appears a riddle when one is close to the situation, but allowing a bit of distance, has allowed me to recognize someones very clear agendas. Determining the true whys of those agendas is still an uncertainty for me.

Propaganda really isn't the issue of this post, guys. Doesn't the LEVEL of thinking demanded of 1st grade kids seem to be really, really HIGH? Inappropriately so, for kids just beginning to read and write and use their little brains?

I am not really sure, to be perfectly honest, with all the "media" young kids have access to, it seems like they are doing things and learning things that we learned at a later age. Just like the new way to do math. It may be easier for them to learn it that way, compared to us who have learned the other way, and then have to unlearn the old way and learn the new way. We might be a little bit biased to the old way. Personally, I like the old way and I hope they continue to teach it the old way. I have a grandson who has a better grasp at things at 4 then I probably did at age 7-8.

Students will: Describe the connection between the location of Mesopotamia near the Tigris and Euphrates rivers and the ability to farm (RI.1.3) Describe an illustration of a desert and use pictures and details in “A Father and His Son in Mesopotamia” to describe the readaloud’s key ideas (RI.1.7) With assistance, categorize and organize facts and information from “A Father and His Son in Mesopotamia” to answer questions (W.1.8) Ask and answer what questions orally, requiring literal recall and understanding of the details or facts of “A Father and His Son in Mesopotamia” (SL.1.2) Identify new meanings for the word banks and apply them accurately

I don't understand your response. I added some stuff above. I was stunned by your answer. Yeah, that was my fault, I didn't feel like reading you links and just thought we were talking about vocabulary words to learn. I would agree that what they are asking for is probably over the heads of the vast majority of 6 year olds, but I still stand behind my opinion that with all the different types of media available to them , they are probably a lot more knowledgeble than we were at the same age.

Maybe think more on the propaganda side of it, other than the little ones trying to soak up too much in that little sponge of theirs. Ps China has School (7) day's a week and they learn College level very early in life..... are we following their ways? I say yes, they want us just as smart.

Most kids have had 2 years of preschool, and a year of kindergarten before they enter first grade. They've already learned See Spot Run. Lol, I gave my granddaughter the dick n Jane reader when she was in kindergarten. She whipped part way through it, and declared that it was boring. She said she preferred chapter books. Guess I waited to long to give it to her.
