Not quite as indulgent, but you should see some of the pensions local teachers are drawing.
Let's just say I wish I had half the pension, heck, a quarter would make me smile........

How could you possibly know this? I don't know if there is a website for it, but it really isn't hard to figure out. All you have to know is what they were making the last few years and a couple of other things, you can guesstimate rather accurately. Same with prison guards, state police, etc. Let me edit here to provide a website for you: www.bettergov.org/pension/

865 school distorts in Illinois equals 865 Administrative pensions. Many of the districts have assistants to the Superintendent. Illinois has more school districts than any other state in the nation. Most have an average of 250 to 300. The state of Maryland has one superintendent per COUNTY. Illinois has an additional Superintendent in each county to oversee each school district. Many retire at 55 and move to another state to work thus double dipping the system. I was at a hospital in Spring Valley last year and saw a retired superintendent from Streator High School working at the front desk. I thought maybe he was volunteering his time. No......he's working and even bragged about this job helping his grandson through college. This position could have been filled by someone in need of a job. Illinois is pension broke and no one can fix the so called system.

You know, it's not just retired teacher and administrators who take another job. Many others from all walks of life do it to.

fot, did not this city hire a retired former employee to be a code enforcement official? He was well known at the coffee shops and all the while was drawing a taxpayer funded pension, with little payroll checkoff contribution in comparison, to the benefit. The chamber then wonders why the young workforce does not stay around here. It is because of the good old boys network in full hiring mode, giving jobs to their friends. Maybe the retired friend, could have been a greeter or rang salvation bells and let a person who needed the job stay and raise a family and add to the tax base.

How could you possibly know this? Ahem, it is a DEFINED benefit plan. They get 78.6 percent of the 4 highest years salary. To make it worse, they artificially bump up many of them their last 4 years so their retirement is even higher. Lets take a well known teacher, 15 years teaching, so he has quite a few more years to raise his salary, 2012 ( the latest year posted ) he made $ 96,339 dollars. Even if he did not get a SINGLE raise for the rest of his career, his retirement pay would be $ 75,722 bucks a year for the rest of his life......... Yea, it isn't rocket science why our schools are in trouble.

While I realize the city did hire a previous employe to be a code officer, I'm wondering if it was still cheaper than what we are paying the new code /building inspector with benefits and salary. Also, maybe his preferred coffee hang out is just different than the previous code guy!
