It's bad enough that most students cant even add let alone explain how they come to a conclusion of a problem!

The money will come from the Ed fund. It will pull money away from somewhere it is needed more. Just another unfunded mandate. So, why is this continuing? I've seen many posts/info online about/against it. Many other school districts, states are stopping it.

The words to the Mike and the mechanics song "Silent Running" come to mind........... There is an underground current running right now. Not for nuthin', Sniper...do the American people realize that at least Obamacare was vetted by both the House and the Senate...while the complete overhaul and nationalization of our education system was voted on by NO legislative body whatsoever? What I just wrote is true. Does this sound like a familiar theme with this Leftist administration?
Obama's Race to the Top educational stimulus package in 2009 could only be obtained by signing on to the frigging Common Core Standards...before they were even finished being written!!!
Most states signed on because the content of the standards was as yet unknown and our states were strapped for cash. THAT'S BLACKMAIL and "bait and switch."
Money talks.
I don't disagree with anything you wrote. That being said, until we can either correct the situation, or blow it up and start over, your best hope is to teach the children yourself, in parallel with the "official" state agenda. Not everyone watches American Idol with their kids at night......

The answer: not enough people give a $hit about the issue...yet. I don't think that is the prime reason. Don't forget the current "outrage" of anyone against you when you question authority. Funny, these are the same a$$hats who raged against the system in the 60's. It will take time to marginalize extremists such as Greek..........and Nancy and Barack. We do need to come out swinging against them though.

It has to happen sooner or later.

[/quote] I'm not exactly sure what you refer to, if it is the words, it simply means we cannot be nice when we debate them. This is WW2 all over, not Vietnam, when you pull the knife, go for the throat.

It looks to me like Superintendents and School Board members across Illinois are doing just what the school officials did in Nazi Germany...throwing up their hands, shrugging their shoulders with a "what can I do?" look on their faces...and then doing what the Masters tell them to do - out of fear, ignorance, apathy, or all three! Why sugar coat it? It's cowardly and wrong on every level you can think of.
What say YOU, Mr. School Board member?

I don't like common core. If it would have been voted down by the board it still would have been implemented as the state approved it. Doing so here was a formality.

I apologize for the harsh tone of my last post...I get all worked up when people get away with stuff like this...wreaking havoc for the sake of simple selfish greed...selling their turd of a Common Core Program as if it were a chocolate sundae that had brain enhancer sprinkles on top.
Your stock just went up with me, but the fact remains that this nightmare was neither asked for or voted on by ANY legislative body.
The FIX is in and the educated idiots behind all this nonsense are pulling a fast one.
Did it ever occur to anyone that the wasted 10 years of No Child Left Behind standards were too hard for most of America's school populations...let alone these grossly inappropriate Common Core demands?
Please check out my thread with the 1st Grade Unit displayed for all to see for themselves what Common Core looks like.

Our district was involved in the suit dealing with NCLB conflicting with other federal guidelines for testing special need students at grade level instead of ability level. I didn't like it and don't care for all this newfangled way to do math. What worked years ago still works now. There is no need to complicate things or reinvent them. If the Govt really wanted to help education and help kids learn they would put more money into it. More teachers and smaller class sizes are needed if we want kids to achieve. It seems that the focus went from letting teachers teach to teach what we need to pass these tests.
