I've become darn spoiled in the past year, by not having any drive to work. It had been over 20 years since I haven't had at least a 45min-hour drive. now I'm back to being on the road for almost 4 hours/day again.
lol, I had become spoiled by being able to set my alarm 15 min before my shift start.
I'm hoping my mind and body (and sleep cycle adjust quickly).
Anyone have any tips on avoiding road burnout?

Ugh. You have my sympathy. Drink coffee. Watch out for the idiots and then just power through... My husband has a commute, too. In the winter its even worse. What would be really funny is that his coworkers (who live within a 10 minute drive of work) would call in on a bad weather day and say they couldn't make it. Odd since my guy drives an hour and he was able to make it in. lol
I hope your vehicle gets good gas mileage. We rack up the miles on his work car. If he had to drive my vehicle it would kill us in gas each week. lol

If I had to leave the house to work again I don't know what I would do. I think it would be time to retire. I have been spoiled for 13 years now. I did plenty of traveling in my younger days though. I worked an extra list for the BN railroad and had to travel between Aurora and Chicago. If I did have to travel I would get audio books. I like talk radio too but it is hard to find certain programs. Try to use it as unwind time.

I liked listening to the Tom & Bob show.(Syndicated channels from 5-10am (?) I heard a lot of comedians & good laughs to unwind to.

A good friend of mine used to drive two hours every day. He really liked to listen to an ipod. Even learned several languages.

I've never minded the drive before this. I hope I adjust SOON. lol. It's the getting up so much earlier than my shift that's been the problem! I feel like my day should be half over, by the time I get there

You are a better person, than I. There is no way, I'd be doing that, especially at my age. But, that is just me. Life is too short.

I've never heard of anybody doing such a long daily commute. Can't you get a "sleeping room" for cheap near your job? The wear and tear on you and your vehicle + gas seems crazy to me.

I hope you mean a 4hr round trip. 4hrs one way,i would be looking for a place closer to your job. If it is 2hrs one way I assume you are working at the hospital in springfield?

Actually if anyone has to drive more than 50 miles to your job ,it would be wise to relocate to save on the gas.

Actually if anyone has to drive more than 50 miles to your job ,it would be wise to relocate to save on the gas. I know many people who drive more than 50 miles one way to work. They have done the math. It is cheaper to live here and pay for gas and upkeep on the vehicle, rather than relocate to be closer to their jobs. 50 miles aint nothing.

Least I don't travel that far. 3mile round trip. 1.5 miles from my home to the front door of my workplace. I'll take this then to have to travel long way to work. Maintenance cost are expensive if your vehicle happens to break down. And costly to tow your vehicle back to the town you live in,or if you have it towed to the closest town and cannot be fixed right away, then you have another cost of a hotel/motel room to stay at until it is fixed.

I would commute back and forth if I had to ,just long enough till the probationary is over with and don't get fired during that time. Then once I passed the probationary period and am permanently hired, then I would relocate to that city that I work in. I hate traveling. Never know what you will encounter on the highway. And could be your last day on earth too. Could end up killed by another driver or driver error. I rather drive the back roads then drive the interstates. Less chance getting in an accident on the country roads then you would on the interstates.. I believe it was back in 2007 when I was almost stuck in traffic on 80 in lasalle when that woman crossed the median and struck a semi head on and died. Saw the cars stopping and quickly got off at the 355 exit and backed around to wenzil rd to 251 and back on 80. 80 was shutdown for 6hrs that day.
