The Mr. Burke sounds like a sneaky, something, something,. It sounds like he is out for his own wallet and does not care for whom he takes advantage of. The one thing I can say, is if there a way there is a will or vice versa.

Wow!
After witnessing all the hard work and money that my family invested into turning the Majestic from a boarded up building to a first run theatre, then seeing us kicked out with a huge lie before it was handed to her, I would think that Katie would have a good lease to stand behind. Although neither her posts nor the newspaper article mention one, I hope that she did have a lease before asking the public to donate so much. If not, I don't see there being much she can do other than give him his asking price or leave.
Looking at the Majestic's real estate listing, I didn't see where it includes the new digital equipment. Since that type of equipment is usually considered furnishings not included with the building and with digital being such a significant factor now, I would expect it to be specifically listed if included.
It will be sad to see it boarded up again, but knowing how much business the place does, I wonder how it can afford to add the costs of that large of a mortgage to its expenses.
It is a shame. I have pretty much had a front row seat to watch how hard Katie has worked to try to make the place go. Since she is a professional real estate person who helped him talk me into moving my family here in 2007 and then saw first hand how he did a friend of 30 years, I have a little bit of a hard time feeling too sorry for her.
I had lived up to and beyond my end of my agreement with him, which was supposed to be a long term arrangement. He used my love of the theatre to get me out by telling me that the big money people from Pennsylvania were going to take care of the problems with the building and make it a sustainable business. During my in last conversation with him five years ago, he said that he would send me some cash for my theatre furnishings that I didn't need to take right away and told me that someday I would be happy that this has happened. Only 23 more years to pay off that $40,000 home equity loan I took out to open that place.
After I left the theatre peacefully leaving my furnishings, knowing that I had always made my living in the theatre industry, he proceeded to tell other theatre owners and film company representatives that I had abandon and thrashed the place.
I would be more than happy to speak to her attorney, a judge and a jury about the way that Tim Burke does people, but unless she has a good lease I think she might as well either pay his asking price or leave.
If she is committed to having a theatre in Streator, now that it has been several years, maybe she can negotiate a better price on the Northpoint Cinemas; offering more product really is more practical than trying to heat and cool huge rooms for a few people(if more people felt more comfortable coming here that may not necessarily be the case). Those new seats and screens that are talked about in the Times article are part of the furnishings that he never sent me any cash for. Maybe I could donate them to Katie to put in Northpoint.
I think she does own a two screen theatre in Charleston that doesn't have digital projectors.

From RECALLING what I read, I thought Bill Phelan TAGGED the majestic in his post, which would make the post show up on the majestically page. In going back to look, he placed a LINK to the majestic in his post. Anyone with a fb account can still go to the majestic site, and you will see Bill Phelans review, and click on his name, and follow it to his page, or, just type in his name. He explains the situation very well. sorry you don't like her on a PERSONAL LEVEL. I dont know her personally. I just know the efforts put into getting the projectors was a public effort. allowing the public to be swindled when he was just waiting for failure does sound like he committed FRAUD :S
