I'm not that big of a movie goer. If my guy didn't suggest seeing certain movies, I'd be content to rent and watch at home. Lol, they need to put in a few recliners

I hope that this helps to bring movie goers into the majestic. Helen, This is one of Streator's "jewels", along with our Library, City Park, and Historical Society Museum.

Helen, This is one of Streator's "jewels", along with our Library, City Park, and Historical Society Museum. Agree with you wholeheartedly on that one Greek. I hope a few more people get used to going out and enjoying a movie once in a while. They need and deserve our patronage. Totally in agreement here....and to think that would have just become yet another downtown vacant lot. You all can thank my father for having the love and passion of historic preservation, and taking the initiative to SAVE that grand theatre from the wrecking ball ........... back in the '60's. M

Thanks to your Dad MnM. When I was young, very young, The Majestic was closed for a number of years. The Plumb was the one opened. I think it was some fire code or building code that kept it shut. Keresotes owned and operated all the area Theatres at the time(seemed like). So what was the story with the Majestic? Why was it shut in the late 60's/ early 70's? The Majestic is indeed a grand old Theatre for our town and we are lucky to have it. For me though, maybe it's because I went when I was growing up, The Plumb was pretty awesome. Don't get me wrong......the Majestic is pretty darn awesome too. Thanks again to Katie, Kyle, MnM's Dad, the current owner(Tim?), and of course Mr Endres and his very generous gift. It was closed when I was growing up, but we had the Granada & Plumb. The prices were $0.35 & $0.50 resp. The Plumb had more 1st run movies, not to mention the Super Dairy caps or tics from your milkman delivery, giving out tics for the number of kids in the family!

Same with me Blue. I never went to the Majestic until I moved back. All I ever was able to go to was the Grenada and the Plumb. The Plumb is where you would take your date, back in the 60's & early 70's.

Just wondering, wasn't the cost estimated for the Majestic to be over 100K? The cost to make the change in Ottawa was 50K.

Just wondering, wasn't the cost estimated for the Majestic to be over 100K? The cost to make the change in Ottawa was 50K. I believe that the $122,000+/- that the Majestic was trying to raise was based on initial estimates and that was years ago. I bet that it did end up costing less than that, particularly with someone like Mr. Enderes involved, but they did convert both screens. Only one screen at the Roxy has been converted at this point. The projector that we are using would not produce quite enough light for the large screen in the Majestic, but would be a good fit in the Granada. The $50K number at the Roxy is a little high, the projector itself is down to $30K but then there is an expensive server, motorized lens assembly, a sound adapter, networking equipment, and some other odds and ends that also go into the system. I am looking forward to installing more of them in the near future. Despite what it said in the paper, I'm not the Manager of the Roxy anymore. I'm still involved somewhat, but am doing digital conversions and opening new theatres other places now.

Don't get me wrong......the Majestic is pretty darn awesome too. Thanks again to Katie, Kyle, MnM's Dad, the current owner(Tim?), and of course Mr Endres and his very generous gift. When my dad bought, and then saved the Majestic....lol...I will never forget that particular day. My dad came home gathered all of us up in the car telling us all that he'd bought "something". He pulled up in front of the old Majestic, and we all followed him as he unlocked the front door. Our mother thought he'd totally lost his mind, as we entered, and were all dodging bats flying everywhere. AT that point all of us kids kind of agreeded with her...as she stood there and literally bawled. When we saw the inside of the Majestic then in the daytime...it was unreal! Whoever, which at this point, I don't actually know, but can easily find out...had SABOTAGED everything possible! They even poured concrete mix down all the toilets , and drains. Every Union in town was on my dad for what he was attempting to do. My dad carried his 45 with him then at all times, especially at night when he and my brother were down at the theatre working. AT that time, and after all of the hard work to repair that theatre...is when my father was faced with NOT being able to then get any first-run movies to run, and I know that Tim also faced that same problem later on when he purchased it. Kerosotes then did own The Plumb, and The Drive-In. My dad was able to then sell The Majestic to Kerosotes, thank God!!! They in-turn then purchased Liptaks Funeral Home on the corner, and then made the additional theatre. Interesting fact: upstairs of the funeral home was the Oddfellows Hall. Try to find out WHAT those guys do / or did, lol. My father couldn't even answer me as to what the ODDFELLOWS did, or stood for...even though his father, and grand father were well known longtime members. Tim Burke saved the theatre again when he purchased it from Kerosotes Theatres...even with his California connections ... also did face problems with obtaining movies. He got to meet my dad, and see all the pictures of what shambles the theatre was when dad saved it back in the '60's. Tim gave us a private tour of the building, and showed an old Abbott and Costello movie on the big screen for my dad....which was GREAT!!! THANK YOU so much AGAIN Mr. Endres for saving this !!!! M

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Bigdipper, What a great post! Yes indeed things in Streator are not all "gloom and doom". What is the name of that "ice cream" place on the South Side of Streator? Oops, the North side of Livingston County. g

Dip, I will agree with you, if these dreamers are still in business in five years. The businesses have to make money and not be self funded, one cannot make a whole lot of money on tax write offs. For the most part, these dreamers are a destination and do not have enough drive by traffic to survive. Correct me if I am wrong, in five years. You and these would be dreamers cannot turn this area's economy and business climate around!

Dip, I hope all those smiles help you pay the Livingston County property taxes, comp insurance, liability insurance and labor costs. You do not have to leave the lights on for me, I enjoy DQ and know where it is. Go ahead and work for pennies on the hour.

I don't really understand the sarcasm and animosity you seem to direct at masked man concerning his view on his business. He doesn't seem delusional and has a reasonable grasp on what his business is and what he expects in income from his business. If he is happy working to see those smiles and it only amounts to pennies on the hour, why do you feel the need to chastise him about it? It isn't costing you anything or hurting you or others, is it?
