Unbelievable........continuing to transfer jobs to Springfield....taking positions away from local residents.......Making statements indicating that they are interested in keeping the hospital functional while eliminating services, patient care space and providers.........Shame on them!!

This is part of the fallout from that insurance for everyone! Thank the government and the people who don't want to work, but are fully able too. I hate that jobs are being eliminated, but its been happening across the country for some time. It just hasnt really happened in streator. Its important to make yourself as valuable as possible for the cpany you work for. Its tough out there. Let's hope they all figure it out before we lose our hospital. And hopefully keep the work force at the hospital as much as possible.

Yeah it's happening everywhere. Here in Princeton, Perry Memorial closed the Baby dept cause of people not paying for it.

"The population in Streator and the market we serve is declining", said St. Mary's Hospital CEO, John Flanders.

Oh, and we know the "emergency room" was ''FREE CARE", right? g I'm not sure Greek. I have had a couple of people tell me their Dr's wont take them anymore unless they pay when the service is rendered. Their deductibles are so high that the Dr. is just covering his financial butt and I dont blame the Dr. They have chosen to put off their health care because of cost. I think there are a lot of people who still think that ER care is free. I dont think that a passage of a law is going to change the way some people have done things. Is the ER turning people away now?People who dont have insurance or dont have the means to pay?

I've never had ins that Dr visits come out of deductible. Once my copay is satisfied, the rest is covered. But, my copay is $30 to $50. Depending if I'm going to np, or other. Just a short 10 years ago, it was $5-$10.

You people can relax,Since obamacare went into effect, people on Medicaid are no longer getting the treatments they need in the er.
I know they are not getting the proper treatments anymore. Even though I am working parttime ,and on Medicaid I am not getting the proper treatments in the er anymore. Even in the dr office I am not getting the treatments like I did in past. Obamacare fixed that.

Rocket, you are right. Like you, I work part time and on the medical card myself. I have bone on bone on my knee plus a torn ligament. But the doctor will not do surgery to repair the torn ligament or a knee replacement because of me being on the medical card. And yes, St. Mary's hospital Emergency room is refusing to take people that are on the medical card and has for several years. It's just more noticeable now because there are more and more people that are needing the medical card because either people are working part time and do not get the coverage because of being part time or are not able to get a job. But I also know people that are working and because they don't get paid all the great needs help and can not get the help because they have income coming into the household. I think the government needs to step in as far as jobs are concern. I am talking about how the work places cut down to only hiring part time just to save on paying benefits. On one hand it sucks because now people have to work two part time jobs just to be able to pay bills and yet have to do without medical help or help with paying for food or loose the pride and not work just to get help with receiving the medical card and link. Forget where I read this at, but I read where down the line the government is going to completely do away with the link card unless the person is on disability. I've talked to a few people just in Streator area alone that link was cut majorly or completely cut and they don't have the means to buy groceries. And a few of those do work but still needs the help. So it will even get worse for people all over unless the government can get jobs going in the United states, not just around our area.

Certainly the CEO is correct, not so much about declining population, although we have lost a percent or two in our population. The main culprit is a declining market as he stated. I hear repeatedly of people going to Streator Drugs for tests that are significantly cheaper than at the hospital. I know people who travel to Ottawa and Peru to have their babies. I have heard how St Mary's has run good Dr's out of town. Their quick care clinic on the south side of Ottawa has picked up some of their Streator customers. The way they do business has been a significant factor in why they are losing their market share of patients.

. I think the government needs to step in as far as jobs are concern. I am talking about how the work places cut down to only hiring part time just to save on paying benefits. . Government involvement IS the main reason why companies are only hiring part time help now. Health insurance costs are a big part of a companies expenses. You really want the government to get more involved? Personally I don't think I can afford much more of the government "stepping in".
