Here is something we as taxpayers need may need to Force on to the School Districts here in Streator. Consolidate both the HS and SES into ONE District along with all the Feeder Schools for SHS into it. Why over all it would be a Savings for the Taxpayers due to a Larger Tax Base with all that Farm Land coming in Fewer Schools open as we could bus in the Kids from Ransom and Otter Creek Schools into Streator. We would be able to get Rid of 1 Super and one Assistant Super saving close to 250K a year in Wages and Benefits a Year. Could close down Finally that Admin Building by McDonalds and Sell it. Overall would be the best plan.

Unfortunately the state doesn't make it that easy. We have looked at consolidation before. No district would change size. Feeder districts would vote on whether or not to join. If one district voted it down it could not happen. Grand ridge for instance feeds to 3 high schools. Their district covers a large area. Why would someone on the Southside of Ottawa vote to join Streator and bus their kid 17 miles when ohs is less than 2 miles?
If it would allow SES to join SHS and expand just SES to their area it would be beneficial. The state just isn't that smart.
Ransom district feeds to Dwight, Seneca, and Streator. The families that live closer to the other 2 towns sure would object. I like your ideas and we have explored them and continue to each year. We also keep our state agency pushing the legislature to make it easier.

It's every man and woman for themselves now.
The crudest example locally is the financial disaster in our local schools resulting in closing a school, laying off employees, reducing others to part-time, and stripping them of benefits...while the 2 top administrators and 3 schoolboard members brazenly throw up both arms with their middle fingers pointing directly towards the citizens of this town...with NO repercussions that have any impact, I might add.
I STILL don't understand how a schoolboard member could even THINK about, let alone DO what they did for the 2 top administrators...given the devastating financial and social impact many of the district's employees are suffering.
(I lied...I DO understand..."It's all about me" coupled with "It's all about the benjamins." What the hell was up with the schoolboard members that voted for the raises, though?)
Amazing.

Every single day there's articles in the paper regarding the financial mess of IL in education. The state has collected over 25 billion in revenue since the tax hike. Yet schools have received less money from the Illinois State Board of Education. Plus schools are not being paid on time. Schools have borrowered to the state of collapse. The taxpayers are stuck picking up the tab. But Quinn insists on keeping the tax, he promises schools will receive more money this time. (Great promises in an election year) Pensions and a legislature unwilling to do massive reconstructions. In the debate between Quinn and Rauner, the IEA president asked 11 out of 19 questiins on teacher pay, pensions, benefits and collective bargaining rights. Yet IEA is a labor organization. it should not pretend to be a champion for students. The teachers will threat to strike once again ( as they have for the last 10 years) cuts will be made to the staff creating bigger classrooms and extra activities will be cut. The teachers blame the administration. The teachers themselves have caused the trainwreck in education. When the teacher's strike this summer will the group of parents protest then? It is a mind game of manipulation. The average person on Social Security will receive upon retirement $20,000 a year. The average teacher upin retirement will receive between $50,000 to $75,000 a year with 3% cost of living raises a year. The taxpayers in IL will forever be on the hook unless a governor decides to reform the system. A system the unions do not want fixed, forever leaving the state in financial crises. Thus leaving the poor students with less.

The state has collected over 25 billion in revenue since the tax hike. Okay… Yet schools have received less money from the Illinois State Board of Education. Plus schools are not being paid on time. Schools have borrowered to the state of collapse. The taxpayers are stuck picking up the tab. But Quinn insists on keeping the tax, he promises schools will receive more money this time. (Great promises in an election year) Okay…Pensions and a legislature unwilling to do massive reconstructions. Massive, huh? Let’s stick it to those lazy, good-for-nuthin’ teachers, huh?In the debate between Quinn and Rauner, the IEA president asked 11 out of 19 questiins on teacher pay, pensions, benefits and collective bargaining rights. Yet IEA is a labor organization.it should not pretend to be a champion for students. It doesn’t pretend anything of the sort...it’s all in for the teachers.
The teachers will threat to strike once again ( as they have for the last 10 years) cuts will be made to the staff creating bigger classrooms and extra activities will be cut. You’re a bit behind on your timeline, aren’t you? The teachers blame the administration. For some of the problems, not all of them.
The teachers themselves have caused the trainwreck in education. You need to go into detail on this theme. Please digress at length and be specific.
When the teacher's strike this summer will the group of parents protest then? It is a mind game of manipulation. There won’t be a strike IMO.
The average person on Social Security will receive upon retirement $20,000 a year. The average teacher upinretirement will receive between $50,000 to $75,000 a year with 3% cost of living raises a year. So?
The taxpayers in IL will forever be on the hook unless a governor decides to reform the system. A system the unions do not want fixed, forever leaving the state in financial crises. Thus leaving the poor students with less. Yep. I infer that your idea of “reform” is to treat the educators in this state the same as if they were working a register at a Road Ranger Gas & Mini-Mart. That's a non-starter.

Here is one more thing to think about also all that Pension Money that the Teachers get is ALSO TAX FREE. Meaning they get their Pensions and NEVER pay a DIME of State Income Taxes on it. Yet if a Person on SS makes over 41K on SS here comes the Feds taking 10% out of their SS for TAXES. So tell me this why should a Professor that made 200-300 grand or a Super that made 150 Grand a YEAR live without having to pay Taxes on that INCOME FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIVES. For a Super that can be 3 Grand a Week TAX FREAKING FREE for the rest of their Lives they can afford to pay Income Taxes like the Rest of the People. Just doing that alone would Fix the Freaking Budget HOLE for the State and allow the Tax Rate to be cut to 3% like it was and Pay off all the Debts and FULLY FUND THE PENSIONS FOR THE STATE.
I am talking if the State did that for all people that are Drawing a State Funded Pension not just a Teachers Pension. However you will never get King Mike to go for it as it would totally piss OFF ASCME in an election year if he even proposed it.

Butterbean.....Save it! The old sympathy act on the good for nothing teacher line. No one is saying the teachers are lazy or do not do their job. Unions have brainwashed and bled the system dry. There comes a point that the well is dry and this is it. Try reading a newspaper or two. It is in one paper or another every day of the week.

I live in this town and in this state. I contribute dearly in taxes. I would like to stay here. Springfield refuses to stand up to the unions and their pay-off money. If something does not happen soon to correct the financial mess, then you will see many more taxpaying people leave this state. Then who is left on the hook to pay for pensions? The teachers should receive a pension but can they not see what is down the road?

You will never see a newspaper article with the complete truth during negotiations and the contract. The unions will only report what they want the public to hear, not actually know.

I believe when a teacher passes away their spouse is entitled to half of the pension. If the spouse has a social security check, they get both. Someone on social security when a spouse passes away only receives one social security. (The higher one) It never ends....pensions in IL

You're not telling the whole truth, either. What about the State robbing the teacher pension fund and not repaying those monies...hmmmmm? We can agree on the fact that it's ALL FUBU with no end in sight.

BB I did not lie about the state of IL taking from the teacher's pension. Most people already know this fact. Robbing Peter to Pay Paul. The Illinois way of paying bills. The facts that I provide are simply facts. Facts written from the experts.

Now, the popular mantra seems to be a general dissing of teachers, instead of going after the people and institutions who put the schools in this GD mess! The Feds do the same sh!t, but have printing presses to print more money to cover their a$$es...Illinois obviously doesn't.

The teachers have known for a long time the mess the politicians put on the pensions. So why is it the unions continue to dump millions each year into the Democratic party? Why is it the teachers continue to demand unrealistic raises and free benefits each year? Thus keeping the debt to dig deeper and deeper.
