I prefer to watch the people who have no goals or a life, bury the districts in debt. They have to think they are important .

Well ... the info from the Times, solves that question, from SETA'a response to Mr. Wilkinsons answer to the questions! "The early renewal of the administrative contracts allows administration to earn Teachers Retirement System benefits on their full salary for the length of their contracts rather than on the new Pension Reform Bill guidelines beginning July 1, which caps benefits on a max salary of $110,000. This will result in additional cost for the district. The salary above does not include all other TRS benefits (9 percent of the salary), i.e. life insurance and reimbursement of professional organization membership fees. Mr. Wilkinson implied the association was not willing to open their contract to take a pay freeze last year. Streator Elementary Teachers’ Association was willing to consider a freeze if Wilkinson would guarantee that no student programs or teachers would be cut. Mr. Wilkinson stated in a meeting, “There are no guarantees.” Being that Mr. Wilkinson refused to be forthcoming and transparent during these discussions, SETA voted to turn down the pay freeze, knowing that regardless whether we took the freeze or not, he would recommend to eliminate teachers, support staff, programs, and the closing of Oakland Park School.

They received 2% this current contract year plus their "step" on the salary schedule which is approx $1550. They don't consider that as part of their raise. They receive this every year automatic unless there is a hard freeze on wages. A soft freeze would mean a freeze on a % increase but still receive the step.

So the union lied about their raises in the paper.

The new contract is about to be negotiated, right? There's no money, right? 5 more teaching positions have been eliminated, right? More people have been reduced to 29 hours and benefits stripped, right? Class sizes are getting higher and higher, right? Teachers at the junior high are being asked to teach MULTIPLE subjects out of their expertise...as the ridiculously hard Common Core Standards are being implemented, right? Morale of the employees in the district isn't just low...it's pretty much non-existent, right? The district will run out of money next February, right? There's no end in sight, is there? I hope the State comes in, fires our administrators...and asks everybody to reapply for their jobs .

Did I miss something? I thought all of these pension Mosquitos were getting compensated while they were under employ. The small contribution to their retirement would have not amounted to this golden rocker chair retirement amount, funded by the foolhardy taxpayer. Also, why bump them the 6 percent, right before exiting? No wonder the pensions are in trouble.

I will add once again. The teaching staff were informed 10 years ago there would be cuts to the staff during negotiations. The staff would not budge on receiving free health care.. Family health is extremely low. The staff has threatened to strike each time This was before Mr. Wilkinson. When real estate taxes continue to raise along with the progressive tax in IL, is the community going to stand behind this? 100 teachers at a minimal raise would cost the district easily $100,000 or more. The teachers already receive yearly a cost of living raise.. The insurance cost the district 5million if not higher yearly. 21/2 million for the insurance and 2/12 for claims. The district has continuously been on and off the AYP watch list before Mr. Wilkinson came superintendent 1 year ago. This was a train wreck in the making many years back. Not only for the Streator district but half the districts in I. Mr. Wilkinson does have the correct certificate for his position.

Let me repeat the observation that you don't think teachers are worth compensating to the degree they have been in the past, but you seem to be supportive of that clown in the superintendent's chair and his recent feathering of his own nest.

Let me repeat the obvious.
Folks who don't make half the money, and have little or NO retirement, are being asked to feel good about "Professionals" wage and retirement plans that the "normal" people lost 20 years ago.
How about we cut the crap and fix the problem?

What exactly do the kids need? I thought over 80 % of the taxpayer money went to money sucking staff. The teachers and administration are in the mix, for themselves.
