I would like to hear the board members reasoning for granting this raise.. Then we as voters in this district need a way to overturn this travesty and get rid of"impeach"those who seem to be doing things in their own best interests and not the districts.. I should add Fatheroftwo's input on the other thread about this is appreciated.... Jim, Its easy to sit behind a computer and bark about what the voters need to do. Its another thing to run for the school board. Give the board members credit. Its a thankless job. They invest a lot of hours and for what? They're not paid! Jim, put your money where your mouth is. The last time around they didn't have enough people run to fill all then board seats. You need to run. It seems you have the answers. I can't wait to review your qualifications.

Perhaps I missed an election then.. I didn't realize there were any vacant seats....... .I have a feeling there will be plenty of candidates next time around though. ......But I just don't have the time to invest to do the job properly so I won't be one of them sorry...

I believe the last two elections didn't have enough candidates running for the number of seats.

The 800 Lb Gorilla that no one seems to be willing to acknowledge is the Board has very limited powers to change things, for instance, the NEED to have a Superintendent in every school, the NEED for things such as a Principle, an Assistant Principal, a Dean of Students, right on down.
Sorry folks, the HS I graduated from had almost 1,000 kids, Super took care of whole school district ( 20 plus schools ), you had a Principal ( no way around that one I do agree ), a school secretary, and........... no one else. No, check that, we did have 2 academic councilors........
Now, does anyone believe that Streator's school board willingly hires additional bodies without a mandate?
Nope, your ire should be reserved for the State, who places the hurdles in front of good people who try and play Superman.

What law requires an assistant principal or a dean of students? Good question, I confess I do not know. I will have to look into that one. We could save a bundle at the HS at leas if it isn't a requirement.

It is combat pay and spineless board members, that have brought on the high pay. They are afraid of the teacher's union and are overwhelmed by the administrators. The test scores are shameful, but reflective of the poverty of the spawn's households. You cannot teach to the laziness, that is bred into one parent, jobless, welfare supported households.

Don't YOU have a Garden to weed? Not EVER Child OR "Spawn" as You refer to Them, comes from a Home with ONLY ONE PARENT, Jobless OR on WELFARE. GET A CLUE.

The "spineless" board members who all took the time to run and are not compensated for the effort. Cityslicker, I look forward to reading about your qualifications for one of those school board seats next election. The "spineless" ones are the ones who go on little websites like streatoronline and say the board members have no spine. Step up to the plate, big boy.

I'm going to add to the/YOUR "No clue" of what's going on too, as to the test scores. Do you know what Common Core is? I've seen the problems given to out local children & it's ridiculous! Read the comment & look @ the homework assaignment posted by this father! “Dear Jack, Don’t feel bad. I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electronics Engineering, which included extensive study in differential equations and other higher math applications. Even I cannot explain the Common Core mathematics approach, nor get the answer correct. In the real world, simplification is valued over complication. Therefore, 427 - 316 = 111. The answer is solved in under 5 seconds — 111. The process used is ridiculous and would result in termination if used. Sincerely, Frustrated Parent.” BTW, this is just one I've seen, but it has a legitimate link! Now, with that being said, Indiana is the 1st state to STOP using it, (Kudos to them!) & hopefully other states will follow! shine.yahoo.com/healthy-living/common-core-parent-facebook-post-indiana-school-181841158.html

I don't know, but I know this, trying to find out what the law regarding staffing requirements requires a team of frigin Lawyers. I think we could uncover the lost Ark before we could wade through every reference site I can find.
