Kyle, did your chickens move with you? gij, He posted that he sold his chickens to and "out of towner" to raise a potential "prize winner'" at the State Fair. I don't believe he posted which State? But that was way before he made the move to "Kaintuck". g GIJ, I was also worried about the chickens too as well. When I walk by Flips I always wait to hear them, and now that I don't, then of course being an avid animal lover myself I was worried for them, and their care now. Glad to hear.............. M

In explaining his more recent job/venture Kyle said: "There are a lot of people who have to travel outside of Streator for work." I am sure that he is correct, but I doubt that many people in town have an 840 mile round trip for their jobs. Yep, I can vouch for that fact. When Thatcher Glass went down in town here my hubby and several other Streator men went to work in the Chicago Heights Owen's plant. They did carpool, three men that happened to at least be on the same shift, and their daily trip TO work and back was 186 miles. My husband did this trip faithfully for 9 longgggggggggg years. It was a toll on not only him physically, but also on his vehicle...as well as the other men too. Did we ever consider moving up in that area, oh HELL no!!!! M

I think the best we all can do now is to let Kyle continue on with his blog and the rest of us just read and not comment. It doesn't matter what anyone else has to say. See you all on other threads. fatheroftwo, I suggested that long ago. But perhaps we can just share our opinions about Kyle to each other without posing any questions to him. Personally, I don't believe he offered anything that will long be remembered or beneficial to Streator's future. Any comments? g Didn't you not only suggest it, but vow to not post here again? What happened, did you not have enough self control? You are probably right about my not offering anything that will be remembered. When looking at the boarded up movie palace, many people will probably just remember how it was boarded up for over a decade before I came here. Many people will probably continue to remember Streator as a community with excessive bar violence keeping it from having an open movie palace.

emachine, Didn't City Park look great today? Oh, and all seemed exceptionally quiet on the North side of Main Street on Vermillion Street. What a beautiful Fall day in Streator, Illinois. As I passed City Hall, I thought the fall decorations, and the stabile in front looked especially nice with the fall colors. I haven't even heard an ambulance siren all day. g Yes, I bet it was a quiet Sunday afternoon downtown. Typically there weren't a lot of stores open on Sunday when I was there more, but you could expect a few cars for matinees at the movie palace. They'd park on Main Street sometimes when they had a movie that Ottawa didn't. Now that the excessive bar violence has won out over family entertainment in the area, hasn't it created a celebratory crowd at the bar there to liven up the area? I thought maybe it would.

The urine flowing in the gutters has also slowed to a trickle. Has it? I haven't been around as much lately and haven't had time to look back at the video. Last I had heard our City talk about these type of things, the Mayor said that he would love to have more enforcement but we can't afford it (despite there now being millions to renovate city Hall) and didn't offer any other type of solution. I don't see why it would just slow on its own. helen seems to still be working on trying to make it seem as if it is acceptable to urinate in public. Has anything changed?

I really thought that people would want to be talking about hens a lot sooner.
helen says that I should lighten up and laugh more. I am laughing now. People can't even tell whether or not I have the laying hens that were supposed to be such a terrible thing and have a huge negative impact on our community. Isn't that pretty funny?
The Hopkinsville ordinances can be viewed online. The only restriction at all on hens is to not let them run at large. They seem to have a very different attitude about people's rights, making it easier for more of them to eat foods that are not laced with the chemical company's' antibiotics and steroids.
We did take some to Kentucky, but we do still have some "uptown hens". They are well cared for. Hens are so easy to take care of that it's not like anyone has to be there to watch them every day. Besides, the people at the bar and the City of Streator watch them closely for me. I'm still laughing helen. Maybe people should go visit one of the over-crowded, antibiotic and steroid fed, debeaked so they don't kill each other chicken farms(if they'll let you in) that MM talks about and many people support when they buy most grocery store eggs, to compare to the lavish lifestyle of my "uptown hens".

It's like you're playing with a bunch of tiles from the game of scrabble. You just keeping re-arranging to validate your cause. Bye-Bye Kyle, have it your way. At least when I re-arrange the tiles they still make sense. Since you suddenly seem to be disappearing and not standing behind what you say, can people just assume the following: That there is no ordinance making it illegal to sleep at the Majestic? That you must have been saying that you did think I was living at the Majestic? That rather than providing me the due process to show that the suspicions that I was living there were wrong, you held a grudge about it for all these years, to finally reveal your suspicions as retaliation for me talking about what our City does? That you do not deny that the three examples I gave of what our City has done are examples of corrupt actions? That I have not been calling people corrupt, but have talked about actions that i feel are corrupt? Come on Willy, you seemed very interested in spilling the beans. Stop pulling your rope, wipe those beans off your scrabble tiles and try to spell something that makes some sense. I'm still laughing helen.

I love the flowers in front Flowers Plus, aren't they beautiful. g Aren't those flowers actually merchandise being displayed outside? Did they get a Special Use permit to be able to legally display merchandise outside? What a shame that our City doesn't become more business friendly and allow stores to let people know they are open by displaying a little merchandise outside without having to obtain a Special Use Permit. Do our City leaders feel there is too much business in Streator? Is that why they try to limit it so much?

Kyle, the grass is really more green than you oppose, negative in life gets you nowhere. I agree. The negative business attitude from our City, has gotten us nowhere near enough business. Maybe if we get new leaders with more positive attitudes towards businesses things will change.

A long time ago, the fire chief and another inspector informed me that when you opened the Majestic, upon inspecting the building, they found made mattresses, bedding and blankets for your family behind one of the screens on the stage. It was pretty obvious to them that you and your family were sleeping there at night. As a member of the council they asked for advice. Mine was to ignore it. My reasoning was simple, you were new to the community trying to make a go of it, and spending money to heat two places couldn't be easy. There was no justification to allow it, but I turned my head to help you out. Until now, I've never spoke up about the incident. Turning my head for you sure didn't help me any did it? I just wasn't wise enough to see through you at that time. Aren't you going to provide the law that you think made it illegal for me to sleep at the Majestic? If you did, then you could start to claim that people didn't support the unique movie palace because they were afraid of getting arrested if they were to nod off in the darkened theatre if the movie wasn't entertaining enough, instead of it being the drunken street brawls and people exposing themselves to urinate in front of the theatre that kept people away. I looked in the published Streator ordinances and couldn't find it. Is it part of the GOBRPC bylaws that our City leaders govern by and makes them think they they don't have to provide due process, give business requirements that are within our laws, or allow people to discuss topics of their choosing in City Park? Since you seem to have already convicted me of the offense and held a grudge, feeling that I owed you something all these years for turning your head, it is a shame that you now won't even provide the law that you are trying to spill the beans about me breaking. That attitude that I've also seen from our City leaders of not having to explain what they do to people is why I think our community continues to have such extensively declining population, businesses, and property values, and why I feel strongly that we do need new leaders. I certainly hope that more people get out and vote in April to try to change this negative direction that our community keeps heading.

Carter Hendricks would be my choice if I were a Kentucky registered voter. We are only staying here while working on this project though. He is the most qualified in my opinion and the one I've seen focused on the issues: I believe in the future of this community and in the city’s need to continue to work for initiatives, ideas, and efforts that create jobs, ensure safe streets, and promote economic development while ensuring an outstanding and affordable quality of life for all residents.I hope there will be as good of a choice for Mayor in Streator.
