How interesting that I am so important to you that you spend your time looking up where I am working and what the crime rates are. You do know that I am only there because it is where the current project that my employer has me working on is located, don't you? Does it make you feel better about what Streator is to point out what happens other places? It doesn't seen to have a rough reputation that keeps people away, like Streator. The population is increasing and I see new homes being built, unlike Streator. It does have an open movie theatre, unlike Streator. It does appear to be a community where the crime is not hidden from the public, like in Streator. When the police don't take an eyewitness statement of a mugging and don't tell the newspaper about the crime that does happened, it doesn't mean that the crimes did not happen. Looking the other way just allows it to happen more and keeps people and their money away, hurting businesses other than bars. Too bad that the laws can't be enforced in Streator so that we can have more businesses like a movie theatre, don't you think?

My fellow posters,
Kyle is not asking for discussion, or debate, or "new leadership" in the city government.
He is asking for Streatorites to accept his premise.
Kyle apparently believes he was "hosed" by the elected officials of Streator. The only amend, the current residents of Streator can possibly make in recognition of his totally altruistic efforts to help our community is to ELECT, a mayor, a city council, and get a police chief, that permits HIM to PULL THE ROPES.
Kyle, I don't see that happening.
Get over yourself.

Kyle, I don't see that happening. Get over yourself. g I did ask for discussion, but our Mayor doesn't honor our Constitutional rights and feels that he gets to determine which subjects can be discussed at City Park. I am not asking Streatorites to accept anything, I just talk about what does happen here and what I think is wrong. Although it's just one insignificant opinion, what I have to say must have some merit or you and my other detractors wouldn't be so worried about it. Maybe there are others who are also realziing that our community could have better? Trust me, I am not interested in pulling any ropes. I'll leave that to Willy, he seems to enjoy "rope pulling". I am over myself. I know that I am just one insignificant individual asking for better from our leaders, but forced to live with whatever they do or don't do. Now if our Mayor were to get over himself and stop thinking that he didn't have to follow our laws, maybe our community could progress. I don't see that happening, so I'll just keep talking about what he does and asking for new leaders.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Kyle, I wasn't questioning the discussion you asked of the Mayor. I was framing the questions you have posed to the forum. The only thing you wish is to be have your accusations "validated". Gee, after 90 pages I haven't seen that happen. Now, I bet you fit right in with the citizens in Kentucky. You do live in a "dry" county don't you? Life must be good for you now. g

How interesting that I am so important to you that you spend your time looking up where I am working and what the crime rates are. Hey, I have a lot of time on my hands. You can run, but you can't hide. Kyle, you probably remember that I was the poster who revealed your "business" background before you came to Streator. At that time, you were posing as some expert on business. In reality, you had been a flop in Arizona. Of course, it was someone's else's fault. I probably only read about ten percent of your posts attacking Streator and its leadership. I got bored after reading your endless complaints. I suppose everyone knows that you were "removed" from your jobs in Streator and Ottawa. When you announced that you had gone on to bigger and better things, I decided to see where you would land. It is an interesting town: 90% of the towns in the country have a lower crime rate. It will be interesting to see how you view the town after a while. For a guy who has admitted that he owes a great deal of money because of failed business ventures, you seem to have a lot of time to lecture the unwashed masses in Streator.

When can the people of Streator receive the belonging's that they donated to your store back? Some people might want to sell their belongings on Streator Stuff or donate to the local Salvation Army's thrift store. Or are you going to take that donated items and attempt to make money for yourself some where else? Why don't you go back to Arizona? Or maybe Roman can find out why you are not in Arizona and post it.

Keep complaining Kyle about all that's gone wrong for yourself because of others, notably the council and mayor of this city. Mostly fabrication, but that's ok in your world. You carp that "we" called you illegal, helped run Joe Tomasello out of town, never gave you the chance to lose someone else's money and "we" weren't progressive enough for Kyle Mitchell.
A long time ago, the fire chief and another inspector informed me that when you opened the Majestic, upon inspecting the building, they found made mattresses, bedding and blankets for your family behind one of the screens on the stage. It was pretty obvious to them that you and your family were sleeping there at night. As a member of the council they asked for advice. Mine was to ignore it. My reasoning was simple, you were new to the community trying to make a go of it, and spending money to heat two places couldn't be easy. There was no justification to allow it, but I turned my head to help you out. Until now, I've never spoke up about the incident. Turning my head for you sure didn't help me any did it? I just wasn't wise enough to see through you at that time.
You still choose to throw barbs at me for saying as a council we were all working together to make Streator better. I just chose to say it in a way that you choose to make it into a sexual innuendo. I'm kind of proud of my accomplishments, but didn't choose to run around pounding my chest about them. I came to this town through foster care at a young age, did pretty good in athletics here and Eastern Illinois. Fought in Viet Nam when you were still soiling your drawers. Served a good 30 years as a firefighter in this city. I became a school board member for the high school in 1991 when the district was in debt 2.5 million dollars combined in all funds. I negotiated all contracts for 12 years, saving the district thousands of dollars and when I was voted out in 2003, the district was out of debt, and was a part of getting close to 20 million dollars from the state for the improvements to the school. The last school in the state to get a penny. After 8 years on the council I was voted out again. In those eight years we accomplished quite a bit. Other than not stopping the fights and a few people from watering down the alley on their way home, I think we did ok. You made fun of me, Ed Benner on his death bed and a bit on Bruce Hart. I think there's enough people on here that no I'm an honest person, the same can't be said of you.
I'm still Willy to the people of this town. I hold my head high and continue to smile and joke with people.
Now, since you don't understand what "pulling on the rope in the same direction" means, maybe you can take a flying leap at a rolling donut. If you don't understand, go into a bar and ask someone. And since you enjoy your own instant gratification, try this one. Go sit in a corner and choke your chicken. And not the ones on the roof.

With all of Kyle's pointing his finger at others, and all his business failures, I think we recognize the "common denominator" in all those ventures. Give me a "K", give me a "y"...... get it? g

I'm not running or trying to hide, just working. You can see my business ventures as flops if you want to, it doesn't bother me. I will still be happy to talk about the good that they have accomplished, even if they didn't show financial success. The only thing I owe from those ventures is the %40,000 loan to open the Majestic. I was proud of that investment that allowed our community to have an open movie palace, until recently when it was boarded up. If I was removed from that "job", I shouldn't owe on a loan for it and should have pay checks to show for it, right? That is not the case though since that is just one example of your BS. As for the Ottawa job, I never asked or applied for it, The owner asked me to manage the theatre while I was working on projects there. I was giving up on new projects and was ready to leave that job months before I was "removed" from it. The owner of the company asked me to stay, promised that other projects were going to start happening, and started paying me more. Think what you want about me, I am not running the City of Streator. The condition the community is in is not from a lack of my trying to talk about improving it, but as Willy admits, they allowed it to go on. In those eight years we accomplished quite a bit. Other than not stopping the fights and a few people from watering down the alley on their way home It is our City leaders who are responsible for the way Streator is.

Or are you going to take that donated items and attempt to make money for yourself some where else? Why don't you go back to Arizona? Or maybe Roman can find out why you are not in Arizona and post it. Donations? It is a for profit business, are you sure they were donations? You should have gotten some paperwork for anything that was brought to Flips. Read that and make sure that they weren't consignments and not donations. We will be there on Wednesday, will be open by noon, possibly earlier, and will be open until at least 3:00. If you have in store credit it will be honored. Although the credit has typically not been usable on furniture, we are honoring it on up to 50% of the price of most pieces. If you find something on the racks that you consigned, although the consignment contract specifically states that it becomes the property of Flips, upon verification of the consignment, we will offer it back to you. It was my son's business, he has moved on. We have no interest in running a retail store. The inventory is being offered as part of a lease with a possible new owner. If they want to operate it as it was, hopefully they will honor the existing and continuing credit from the consignment inventory. I invested in Streator and own a building here. It is difficult to take care of a building from thousands of miles away. With there being a lack of buyers here, it is not like it can just be sold. Until things in Streator improve, you will be stuck with me. Why, is decreasing Streator's population your goal, or you just don't like anyone asking for better for our community?

And since you enjoy your own instant gratification, try this one. Go sit in a corner and choke your chicken. And not the ones on the roof. OMG, you really spilled the beans on me, didn't you? So, our City leadership has thought all this time that I was living in the Majestic? Wow, no wonder they didn't like me and wouldn't correct or even discuss solutions to the problems keeping a movie palace from being successful downtown. I confess, I did spend a few nights there. It was a cold March 5th when we showed up there, without having a house rented. We slept in the office with a little electric heater. Have you ever been back stage? It is called the fly box, because that is where back drops were "flown" when it was a vaudeville house. It has a 50' high roof, the upper portion is wood framed and there are many holes where you can see outside. I really doubt that anyone would want to live there, and in all my years of being involved with the Majestic have never seen beds back there. We rented a house within a couple of days to be able to unload our rental truck. I could put you in touch with neighbors who would remember us living in a house while working ion the theatre. We worked hard on the place for months, it wasn't until May that the Fire Department inspected. The only one who was living at the theatre at all during that time, was a cousin of Tim's, shacking up with a new girlfriend until his old one moved out of his house. No one from my family was living or sleeping at the theatre at all during that time. Maybe you are talking about upstairs in the old Oddfellows office area. Tim had it set up like a little apartment with some beds. That area was not part of my lease with Tim though, so I had no say as to what went on there. Maybe our City leaders should have confronted me with the allegations and found out what was going on, instead of convicting me for living in the Majestic without giving me a chance to provide my side of what was going on. It is called due process. Instead you just think that I was doing something wrong and holding a grudge against me for it for years. I am glad that you were able to finally get that off your chest.

It's about time some one from the city council spills the beans on Kyle. Thanks for posting. Yes, let's spill the beans on the Mitchells. Aren't you the person who had the travelling mechanic business, who took a vehicle apart, but couldn't fix it, broke the ignition key, and didn't replace it, but I still paid what you asked for for your time? Didn't my wife loan your wife $10 one day for a prescription for your son? Didn't my wife give your daughter a name brand pair of sweat pants on a previous cruise night so that she wasn't freezing?

Well Kyle seems to have spoken up quite well for himself I would say.. I remember Ed Benner going to council meetings and complaining about all kinds of things wrong in the city. Funny thing is he got elected to the council......You probably would have accomplished more that way Kyle.... Its that old saying that comes to mind-If you can't beat them Join Them..
