So you are going to back off? I hate the colors of your building - thought you were trying to improve Streator - You are a joke I am not backing off from anything. If you don't like the way that my building looks then close your eyes. Look at the boarded up Majestic if you want to see a real joke. I suppose that you think that falling apart vacant building sitting there creates a better image for Streator than a brightly colored maintained building. Over-serving, drunken street brawls and public exposure has won out over family entertainment in Streator. Thank our Mayor for his lack of solutions. I remember Tim saying once that he should move back here and run for Mayor. With his ego and unscrupulous ways, he might fit right in with our City government.

No, Kyle, you can't hold your head high - people know you are a liar in this town - Want me to go back and find all your lies - After all you posted them - first you own Flips then no your son - shall I go on Kyle - --------- I would walk through town or should I say run through town with my head down Lie after lie - You must forget what you say - I mean really Your son left why don't you OMG, what a travesty. I supposedly lied about whether my son owns the business or I do. How terrible, and telling that it is the very best example that you can come up with. I don't think I ever said that I owned Flips, but please do go back and find it. As if it really makes any difference to anything. it is just a distraction from what is really going on here. Why don't you organize another boycott and plan another protest over the huge lie you think I told. That'll teach me, wont it? Yes, more people are leaving Streator, why hasn't the population already been declining fast enough for you and our City leaders? Maybe now that there will be less businesses in the area to complain, the drunks will be free to fight and expose themselves in the street more. Maybe that will bring more of those Naperville high end businesses here, right hawk?

No, I was asking for clarification. I remembered seeing the ad in the paper. Thanks for clearing it up.

Didn't you block your building from your tenant Kyle and lock her out - hmmmmmmm how soon the liar forgets Cut your losses and move !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great, that is a good subject to talk about, lets explore that. Do you mean the tenant that ended her rental agreement without paying the last months rent and then didn't leave even into another month yet was still opening on weekends? Would that be the tenant that was the girl friend of the flooring contractor that Tim is taking his legal advice from? Would he be an owner of Floor to Ceiling in Ottawa and the father of the people who were just part of locking Katie out of the Majestic? Yes, they were trying to take me to the cleaners, by staying around as long as they wanted to without paying any rent. I was very happy with getting rid of them. Perhaps people remember her telling people that it was freezing in the store because I wouldn't pay the gas bill. Of course I wasn't going to pay the gas bill that was clearly stated as her obligation in our rental agreement that I could post a copy of. I suppose that only charging them $400 a month rent was not good enough for them. How about the non-profit issue though? Could you show us any documentation that the Bargain Box was ever any kind of non-profit business? I am sure that many people remember that she said that she didn't pay sales tax because she was non-profit. Hmmm, sounds similar to the type of attitude and unscrupulous behavior that created the Majestic debacle, doesn't it? Well, with all of this unscrupulous behavior, I know where I wouldn't go to buy flooring. RIP Majestic

I wonder if Tim's family here is really proud of what he has done.

Thanks for the input, but if anyone wants to try a different business model they are welcome to put together a proposal or take a shot at it in any of the vacant buildings that are for rent around here. Chris didn't want it to be a thrift store. At thrift stores you typically find the items that people just didn't want any more, didn't have much value. At thrift stores, you find a lot of clothes with rips, stains, missing buttons, generic brands, etc. He tried to get people to bring in items of better quality, things that still had some considerable value that they just didn't need or want. The store provides a lot of name brand items and were inspected for quality. It provides a service to many people, having almost 2200 consignors. The store did great when Chris was here and still interested in living in Streator. It was covering the expenses of the business and building and providing him a living. Each year the store was climbing in the Times reader survey. He was really into the numbers and had a spreadsheet showing the store's revenues increasing considerably each month over the same months from the previous year. ***>>>>>However, when our City publicly declared him illegal those numbers changed. Business took a hit for him. When the Mayor stopped the Aquaponics business that he had done a lot of research on and was excited about, he decided that he didn't want to waste his business degree here and started looking for some place else to go.<<<<*** When he left, operations were scaled back considerably losing the store's on-line sales and some internet promotions, among other tasks, and revenue suffered. The store still did well enough after he left with my wife operating the day to day management, and it covered expenses. As his career is developing running it from afar was becoming more difficult. My job was already in the process of changing as my employer began acquiring more locations. After my daughter left with our grand kids, my wife decided that she would just help put this new theatre together with me, as we have several times before. With both of us gone a good part of the time now and our employees wanting to move on, we don't have the time right now to train new employees and manage the business, and why, when our City leaders and others have made it so clear to us that they do not want us here? The hours could be expanded if the business climate downtown were to change to make it more worthwhile. It's not like there is very much traffic or business down town these days anyways. Limited sporadic hours are the result of what downtown is, we will open it as we have the time. We will try to post on facebook when it will open. Hey, everyone...who recalls Kyle stating that they looked directly at HIM when talking about storefront residences? I don't remember him saying they named or looked at his son. Also, hasn't he repeatedly said that the building owner approached HIM about a use for his building, and HE suggested aquaponics and its been his baby all along? Anyway...most people have posted that they were UNAWARE of Kyle (and now Chris) being called illegal until KYLE started posting it here, over, and over, and OVER. Maybe the drop has more to do with KYLE and his calling streatorites corrupt, liars, drunks, public urinators, who expose themselves to children. Who thinks it has to do with those. accusations? Kyle has accused me, the cops, and others of supporting public urination, but he thinks we would think less of him because someone supposedly called him illegal because he lives in an apartment above his store. Teeheehee. Yet, he's seen how this town supports its own, and can't face that he's caused his own decrease in numbers. SMDH Oh I'm not surprised to see an attack from you helen. I have said all along that they looked directly at me as they called all residents of downtown illegal, which includes me, my son the rest of my family, and other business owners including the last footwear place in town before they closed up. I never said that they called only me illegal. In case you don't know helen, many people do read the newspaper, The story about business owners being publicly declared illegal was on the cover above the fold, only the most prominent place it can be. Too bad that they didn't read our laws first so that they would know that we never were. When we pointed out that we were never illegal and that it hurt business, we asked for an apology or at least recognition that we were never illegal, but they refused. I'm pretty sure that I have talked before about my son researching the Aquaponics project with me. Do you have a problem with a family working together to make a business work? Tim has local family here that has been instrumental in helping him kick people out of his business(that stole $130,000 from donor), are you going to start screaming foul about that too? Of course I accuse you of supporting public urination and fighting. Should I pull up your posts again where you say that guys urinate in public in other communities and that I should not call police on them, or where you feel that when people fight, they should just be told what jerks they are the next day? These activities are why many people will not come here to spend their money to support things like the Majestic. Over-serving and its effects has won out over family entertaiment in my opinion. You can think what you want about decline in numbers, it doesn't matter to me. The store is still there, I still have a part time residence here for when I am working on my employers Illinois theatres. My family has moved on and we don't need any revenue from the store, so at this point numbers don't mean anything to us. We know that there are a lot of good people in this community, and believe that I have only called those out who deserve it. That is great that this town supports its own, have fun with that. Maybe some of Streator's own will open up some businesses in some of the many, many vacant buildings here? However, I think that if some people and more importantly the City of Streator don't start supporting people from other places, this community will just continue to decline.
We asked people to bring non-perishable food for us to donate to the food pantry, but we compensated them for it with free popcorn. We asked people to bring us frozen turkeys to donate, but we compensated them with free admissions.
I love your altruistic attitude.
How many "free bags" of popcorn do believe you gave out to those that brought in perishables and frozen turkeys for you to donate to the Food Pantry?
We all know Streator is a very caring and giving community.

I believe Kyle is trying to develop an exit strategy for leaving Streator.
After all it's never his fault for his business failures.

It was not too hard to figure that the Mitchel family was leaving, considering that their son and daughter have moved to a different state. And to be all honest with yeah, most people in this town shop out of town for the ones that has the mean to. The people that don't have the means to shop out of town are the ones that will be loyal. My family has gone over to Ottawa the last few months to grocery shop, also shop at WalMart out of town, even shopped at Rural King recently. And talking about Rural King, the cashier, stated that the company changed their mind about Streator. Not that it matters. So it is kinda hard for the Mitchel family to keep Flips open when people go else where to do their shopping. Even rummage sales, and Streator Stuff would hurt their business. Just a thought.

Gee, we have great grocery stores in Streator, from chain stores to independents such as B&R, Harcar's Meat Market, Grant Street Grocery.
Interesting that those stores have been successful throughout the years, while suffering all the same situations that seems to have caused Kyle to fail.
Hummmmm?

Yes greek, there are a lot of good people in Streator. I have said that many times and that there are a lot of other good qualities here too. helen is right too that there are many here that support their own. Tim is from Streator.
My “exit strategy” was being developed quite a while ago, when my family didn't want to be here. As emachines pointed out a while back, I have already moved on, working out of state and haven't spent much time in Streator over the past few months.
I did try to do some good things in Streator, and did invest a lot. I'll give you that I am no business guru and admit that I have made some mistakes. If it's any consequence to you, I'll be paying for my mistakes for a long time. However from the looks of our Main Street, maybe there are a lot of others who have made mistakes too, or maybe there are other issues that keep business from being successful downtown?
Maybe those businesses that you listed are all that Streator needs. Maybe the vacant buildings will never be filled. I tried changing the trend for a couple of them, but haven't really seen many others try. It seems to me that the number of vacancies has increased considerably since I have known Streator. Do you feel that the amount of business downtown is the best it will ever be? Is our downtown only something to reminisce about?
I tried to get the problems that I saw corrected, in hopes of seeing things turn around, but had no success. I wonder what it will take for our downtown to change its trend and be something more, or was it just all me? I can't see how my poor business sense explains all the other vacancies, but hope the situation improves someday.
Yes, there are probably a lot of people who are probably very happy that my family is gone and the “flea market” is hardly open.

Hummmmm? g And your right on those stores that you mentioned. By the way, I have actually bought products through those stores, also, all within the past few months. B&R found the salt needed for making sauerkraut and pumpkin spice ect. Bought meat at Harcars, and now that the high school soccer is back in session, recently put in money so my son can receive a sandwiches at out of town games that is spent at Grant Street grocery. In which I think is a great idea. The High school Soccer team pays a certain amount of money to Grant Street Grocery to make sandwiches for the kids for out of town games. Each kid pays $35. And there is 49 kids that are on the soccer team between the JV and varsity team. Just wish other sporting groups from the high school would do that. It's the major grocery shopping that I am talking about.

Kyle, no need to apologize to Faux business owners. The difference is obvious......... Pretty hard to fail when you hide in the shadows like a roach. FWIW, Streator will be the loser when you do move on.
