So, did you sell just the business or the business/building? Why? Do you think it is any of your business or that it somehow matters? Will you and your overly restrictive, selective enforcement friends at City Hall not worry about how much snow is on the sidewalks if I no longer own the building? It was never about merchandise being displayed outside, was it? It was about who it was and trying to control the talk of problems that should be corrected within the City, as if we are like some third world country without rights, where people have to pay a steep price for voicing their opinions about their government. I don't think I was ever asking for anything bad for our community, but some people seem to really be against any positive change here. No, it's not any of my business. I just read the article and was curious. I'm not affiliated with the City in any way, shape or form. I don't know anyone who works there personally or professionally either. So, I'm not quite sure who my friends are there that you are talking about. I've had the Code Officer knock on my door before, too. Once for grass clippings in the road. Oops. The other time because someone had placed a city council political sign in my yard in the wrong location. Both times, I corrected the infractions. Didn't take it personally at all. Although it was funny, because a few minutes before I was notified about the political sign I had noticed the councilman that the person was running against drive by, notice the sign and make a phone call. Coincidence? Doubtful. Best of luck to the new owner of Flip's. I wish them great success.

Hmmm.....non-compliant grass clippings.......I love Streator and all.....but I am really kind of glad I don't live IN Streator. That's entirely too much Mickey Mouse Horse Hockey to me.....grass clippings indeed...... This is STREATOR.....not MALIBU From what I recall, the ordinance was written because the city had a problem with grass clippings plugging up the storm drains. It wasn't a cosmetic aspect that was being addressed. Not really a big problem for the homeowner to address. I either used my bagger or made the first couple of passes discharge the clipping back onto my property, then switched directions when the clippings couldn't reach the road anymore.

This happens out by you, MM, just up the road after it Y's out. I think it's the 1500 block. Those drains plug and flood the road. Both on Bloomington and Park.

When I was running the street sweeper for the city you would be amazed st the number if places where grass was blown into the street 3 feet out. When it rains storm drains flood, sewers back up resulting in overtime for employees or causing homeowner money to clean their basement. Marseilles just mentioned that this is a problem over there and I know Ottawa has problems too

Why spend money cleaning it when peeps can STOP it from happening? Because then they can make ordinances regarding it and rake in more money than it would cost to clean it. That's what Streator does.

If, I ever got it in the road, I just drove down the road, and blew it back to my yard. It is so simple. And, yes, it was because of the clipping cluttering gutters.

I had a very interesting conversation with SACCI's Economic Development Director on Thursday morning. He saw me on the sidewalk and pulled over to the curb to ask me what I was going to be doing with my building. He seemed very stern and concerned about it, giving me the impression that he thought that I was doing something terribly wrong.
I responded asking what it is that people do with buildings downtown, since it seems that there are so many with no use. He suggested that I sell. I said that I think that requires people actually wanting them. He mentioned that four buildings had sold, but then admitted not for amounts that should really encourage me to sell.
Then he asked me if I was going to at least open up the store to sell off the inventory.
Gee, it sure is nice to know that SACCI is so on top of what is happening in the business community here. Are they questioning what every building owner is doing with their buildings, or just select owners?
Needless to say, he got me a little worked up. I told him that I wasn't going to abandon it and allow all kinds of water to flow through it, like others do here. Maybe he should have been more concerned with the example his buddies at City Hall set with the Mushro building to give people like Tim the idea that is what our City recommends doing with buildings.
At thst point, I wasn't at all shy about getting into many of the problems that I think have created such a poor real estate situation here, despite it being clear that he wanted to leave. I think he's heard much of it before, I had gone before SACCI's Board of Directors seversl years ago explaining the problems and asking them for help. I told him about Sunday afternoon's long, loud, rude, profanity filled performance on the bar patio. He didn't seem to indicate that he thought it was creating a good atmosphere for other businesses to exist in.
By the time he left, he did say that he would report my concerns to the Mayor and City Manager and thanked me for talking to him.
I am very ready to start seeing some actual results of some of the changes they have recently been talking about. I really do hope that they can convince some of the bar owners to start trying to create a better environment for other businesses in our downtown.

You will NEVER get People to STOP throwing out Their Grass Clippings on the Road UNTIL THEY START getting FINED for it. The Code Enforcer seems to PICK AND CHOOSE Who he gives a Ticket to.

Selective enforcement seems to be their speciality. That is why I will continue to be very concerned about their ridiculous, overly restrictive ordinance writing policies.
I hope they change that snow removal one soon. There seem to be some people (like anonymous) who are very concerned with how much snow is on my sidewalks.

Who pays the Sacci chief & how much? God you're an idiot. You come on here and talk about the uneducated people in this town and then you ask this question?
