the whole transportation system brought to its knees because of a few people lol Well, they're going to err on the side of caution next time, and I understand that. I won't second guess those in charge. Here's what I would do nxt time. Close the interstate for starters, this means just like the northern states, put gates on the on ramps and keep everyone off the road. Close the schools and order everyone to stay home or else. The other choice is to purchase 500 salt trucks and 500 experts to drive them lol, which is every 1000 days they need the salt trucks on average, that's hard to justify the cost., but hey, the northern states have to pick up the tab for this so why can't those big rich southern citys put out for this expense?

someone has to take the blame. just look what happened the other night when everyone was told to stay off the highways around here. 30 stranded on route 23 because they thought they could make it. I drove back and forth for 30 years to Morris during the winter. I had a 4 wheel drive suv and never got stuck even when the roads were closed. my biggest problem was getting around people in little cars that got stuck in 4 foot drifts and left their cars in my way.

Dive, I will mostly agree with you, but the other night, 4WD didn't do me a bit of good when I couldn't see the end of my hood, or the road right below my rolled down window.
Thankfully this time I was smart enough to just stop, put my hazards on, and only move a few feet when the wind laid down enough to see a few feet in front of my truck. Didn't see another soul the whole time. It came up all of the sudden, before it hit, I could run 25-30 MPH.
took 1-1/2 hours to go 2 miles......

yeah, you need the right vehicle if you're driving in deep snOw
If northerners can't master it, the folks down south sure can't
Think about this though, those southern states have been increasing in size and attracting a lot of industry...they should pay up if they want road service like we have up here.
Canada didn't even start to plow their rural roads before the 1970s...it costs money people! $$$

Wish I had the money to put in a whole house generator that runs on natural gas.
