Rocket, there could never be too many warnings!! Not when lives are at stake. We all got alerts on our phones, had the emergency radio going, and had the tv on. We were well informed while hunkered down. But, to anyone that might not have a weather radio, etc, your updates are informative.

WE got lucky, the radio reports that the tornado took a slight turn after passing Minonk and just missed our area. The gas station attendants in Minonk said they saw the tornado and was a half mile wide. If this tornado stayed on track and not turned, the radio said the southern half of Streator would have been gone.

from the looks of the debris field we have in Streator I would think this tornado passed right over the southern half of Streator. debris is scattered from lucky trucking to the old garbage dump out on coalville road. it heads straight to the northeast on line with coal city. I think the tornado lifted before it got to the Streator area.

I live in South Streator, and we had debris dropping 20 minutes before the 11:55 a.m. projected time for arrival...Although the tornado turned, I assure you it was one helluva ride down here...Golf ball size hail, chunks of wood, insulation, even part of a Morton bldg. in my neighbors front yard... I would liken it more to being side-swiped by the tornado...Closely side-swiped...

Make sure to check your homes for damage. We are on the south side of town and had a lot of damage to our siding and some screens with holes. The west side of the house got hit the hardest.

www.crh.noaa.gov/images/lot/13nov17/radar/13nov17supercell_full.gifCheck that out. Looks like there were 2 tornadoes in our area. One passing s/e of Streator and another developing of Streator n/w of the one passing to the s/e. The white areas on radar are debris balls showing up on radar. This may explain why people on the northside of town had building materials laying all over their property.

www.crh.noaa.gov/images/lot/13nov17/radar/rotation.jpgthis one shows where the tornado made a right turn just north of Minonk. If you look at the track ,if it remained on the track it was going before turning, you can see clearly that Streator would have taken another direct hit.

Well with the houses that are built in this town back in the days would not have survived if that tornado remained on it's track and not turned and remained a ef4. There would be a lot of casualties in this town from homes caving in on people in the basement burying them alive.
My life flashed before my eyes when this was coming, and prayed to let us survive. A lot of old homes have bad foundations that are not suitable for protection. They would collapse and the house would fall in on you.
Newer homes foundation are concrete with steel I beams in place for the floor. Makes it alittle safer from the home falling in on you.
