How in the hell do you know so much? I can see why there are no encyclopedias in your home.

Now Helen don't be silly that only happens in Streator. Who ever said that? I have acknowledged that it does happen other places, but it happens a lot more often in Streator. If you don't like hearing about it, you could ask our City to start changing things here, or you could just not read my posts. No you "think" it happens here more then other places because you have first hand knowledge of it due to the fact that you live next door. Bar fights happen everywhere, even (gasp) Ottawa. Go live next door to one of Ottawa's establishments for 1 year and I promise you will see public urination, fights and ignorant drunks there also. Before you start screaming I am condoning it.....STOP.....I am not. As for it not being in the paper. 1. This whole mentality of everything needs to be in the paper is bull, once again let me explain, our force is short-staffed as it is, would you rather have an officer sitting in his office for a couple hours a day writing out a press release to let the citizens know every time someone is pulled over or there was a call about an acorn falling off my neighbors tree into my nice clean yard....oooorrrrr.....do you want them out there doing the job they were hired to do. 2. I have seen Ottawa's police beat after the weekend and if you are delusional enough to think that not ONE single fight happened over any given weekend I also have some rose smelling manure to sell you.

I have spent many weekend nights in Ottawa over the last couple of years and I have made it a point to try to see the activities there that I see here. There are two places right near the theatre that serve alcohol, but I never see any of these problems. I've walked around the downtown area and don't see people stumbling drunk and urinating anywhere, or the many broken beer bottles like I do here. Is there a particular bar that I should go stake out to see these activities? If it takes our police two hours a day to report what happened then something is wrong. They provide some traffic incidents that don't keep people informed of the real crimes. They could just spend their time writing about the crimes and skip the minor traffic infractions and it would be a real service to citizens.

Are we actually talking bars or are we talking about the two resturants that serve alcohol?

Have you not read this thread?
I noticed that I get criticized for supposedly being convinced by just two places, while ignoring my request to know where I should be looking to see the problems.
I said that I have walked around the downtown to try to see signs of these problems there.
I also talked about the American Legion and BASH being right near the theatre and being great neighbors.
I have also driven around the area close to closing time to try to find these activities.
In Streator all you would have to do is come downtown, as dog says after 10:00, drive the major streets, and you can tell where the problem areas are.
So what places should I go in Ottawa to see these activities or are you keeping it a secret?

I don't know why I keep letting you suck me into this debate, you are confident that our town is the only place that have these issues and no amount of talking to you is going to change your mind. You come on a public forum pointing out all the bad here so I can only imagine what actually comes out of your mouth when you are in Ottawa speaking of Streator. You or your son own a business here and you expect people to frequent said establishment while telling them but be careful it is a dangerous place. I think no matter where you live you would find it flawed. Some people would find fault with a fence post they painted themself and you are just one of those people!

So you are not going to tell me where I should look in Ottawa to see these problems? Just as I wouldn't know there is a problem on your corner without you screaming it from the rooftop on a daily basis I can also say I can't with certainty give you a name of an establishment in Ottawa as I do not frequent Ottawa unless I absolutely have to (I hate that town) but I have had the pleasure of going to 2 functions out North by Walmart put on by my husbands company and both times there was a fight. There was definitely over searving going on.

Ive seen a lot more knockout dragdown fights in Ottawa than I have in Streator by far. (15)yrs ago I was one of them fighters who put people in their place, now I'm pretty passive for the most part. So I would know about this kind of situation.

There was definitely over searving going on. That is exactly why I do talk about it so much. So that more people like you do realize that it is a big problem and hopefully start asking for better for our community. Too many of my customers at the Majestic knew there was a problem on my corner. Perhaps some people remember me holding doors and thanking people for coming; I saw what many of my customers were seeing. For Katie to offer up to me that the fights are the biggest problem she has with the City, speaks volumes to me about what problems her customers are seeing. There are other business people that will tell you about the problems too. No matter what time these things happen, other people do still talk about what goes on. These things just keep our bad reputation going, and it does hurt business here. I do frequent Ottawa and I have specifically looked for these things. I assume you are talking about Shakers? I have gone up there before to look. There were a lot of people there having a good time (which I am not against, within reason). The couple of times I've been there isn't enough to make any judgement; I agree though that it seems a more likely place for problems to occur than any of the places I have seen downtown. Is Shakers the best place for me to see these kinds of problems, or does anyone have anymore possibilities (preferably downtown but otherwise as well) of where I'd see these problems in Ottawa? I would appreciate your help on this.
