I didn't want to do it yet but had to turn on the furnace. The room temp on the thermostat said 59 this morning. Fvcking freezing . Finally got it back up to 68 in here. Not shivering anymore.
Anyone else got there furnace on now?

I did too, as I was down to 64 this morning. Having 6 inch walls makes a big difference on heating costs. I do need a more efficient furniss though, and I could save 15 percent more on my gass bill for sure.

We have ours on, too, Rocket. We will save on our heating bill by using our woodburning stove. You can save on electric by unplugging the phantom electronic pieces that suck the energy. I know when I started unplugging things I didn't use everyday, like the microwave, I did notice a difference. I can't complain too much about our utilities. My electric bill is always around $100 a month and that was with a central air unit, window ac and TV's running all day in the summer.

We ran the A/C most of the month plus used the electric stove and oven more than ever. EVERY DAY in fact My bill=$101 I gotta be happy as my last TX bill was over $650.00. Darn tract home.

Rocket, a few years ago my husband went over our furnace and made sure to tape our ductwork. We were losing a lot in leaks and that made a difference in keeping our house cool in summer and warmer in winter. You have to get the right tape though and ACE can help you with that. Changing out old leaky windows/doors helped, too. With as many windows as our house has, we did it piecemeal.

LOL, just bought the drill and bits to drill some holes in the exterior walls for blown in insulation. Wonderful 100 year old home with NO insulation in the walls at all. Gotta get after it before it gets TOO cold, maybe this weekend. Any advice...cheap cellulose or spend a little extra on fiberglass? I know blown in is not ideal, but it will be a lot better than nothing and I have no plans on opening up the walls in the immediate future. our house had that blown in stuff in the walls at one time. when I remodeled the living room there was an open space of 1 and half feet at the very top where it had settled over the years. it works for a few years before it compacts maskedman.

it works fine when you don't have anything else in the walls.

a thermal camera should show you where the insulation has sagged
you can go back and top those areas off

I haven't turned mine on yet. I still have some windows cracked open. I am ready to put the flannel sheets on though.
