Great answer Dave. It is kind of amazing, they were brand new cars that had just left the plant. They were on train cars and getting transported from the factory bound for the dealers. They actually had a ferry (ship) for rail cars across the lake and the cars were on those rail cars when the ship sunk in a storm. The factory in Hartford kept in business until the 90's. They eventually made outboard motors for Sears under the Elgin brand. I think my dad had one for fishing the Illinois River b-4 it got too polluted in the late 60's.

Dog was right. The Vega received praise and awards at its introduction, including 1971 Motor Trend Car of the Year.[1] Subsequently the car became widely known for a range of problems related to its engineering, reliability, safety, propensity to rust, and engine durability. Despite a series of recalls and design upgrades, the Vega's problems tarnished both its own as well as General Motors' reputation. Production ended with the 1977 model year. -Wikpedia

The folks I worked for bought up a bunch of new Gremlins and Hornets. I liked the Gremlin. I could fold down the back seat and was able to store my box of paper work and tools. The one problem w/ the Gremlin was that if you had to really push on the brake, the darn thing would spin like a top. The Hornets were better but terribly under powered. Very dangerous to try to get on a freeway. I had my foot in the engine many a time while watching another car try to keep from climbing up my bum entering a freeway. Eventually,I got a 1994 F-150 w/ a 5.0 mustang engine. It could go like a bat out of Hades! It had 11 miles on it when thay gave me the keys and it ran on regular or CNG gas. Great ride & perfect for my job.

What went from New York to London distance 3,508 miles at 1,435.587 miles per hour and an elapsed time of 1 hour 54 minutes and 56.4 seconds? It has the same name as a Beatle song.

If I remember correctly that airplane needed to be fueled in flight,or else it leaked all over the place. It needed the heat from the wind resistance to cause things to expand and seal it up.

That is correct DOG. Amazing plane AND it was developed in the early 60's. At one time they had to use a special cart w/ two huge Buick V-8 engines to start the individual plane engines. They went to the Chevy short blocks later. They lost a lot of planes to mechanical reasons and only one pilot died. NO ONE CAME CLOSE TO SHOOTING IT DOWN> It was faster than any SAM.

I donated the clocks of (the now former)St Anthony's church. Since religion is like an unknown foreign language to me, I asked my wife, and she thought she read somewhere that it was one of the founders of Anhaueser-Busch.

That would be correct. From The Times --"In the early 1900s, a number of local merchants and Adolphus Busch, owner of Anheuser-Busch in St. Louis, donated four clocks for each of the towers."

Chrysler/Dodge killed off a third division a few years ago. Almost all of you know that one well. Name 2 other divisions of Chrysler Corp. that were killed off. They both sold cars. Also name a THIRD car brand from Chrysler that was a psuedo-brand. It was a one-car line that was badged Chrysler many years and other years wore it's own badge. (at least some years it seemed independent) Not sure exactly what answer you are looking for. There was Desoto, Daimler-Chrysler, Imperial, I guess you could possible include AMC.

That would be the Medal of Honor. Six Union Army soldiers who hijacked a Confederate locomotive named the General in 1862, were the first Medal of Honor recipients. There are actually four current versions of this medal: Army Navy (Marines get this version also) Air Force Coast Guard (but it has not been made nor needed yet.) There have been two US father and son recipients of the Medal of Honor: General Arthur MacArthur (Civil War) and General of the Army Douglas MacArthur; and Theodore Roosevelt (US Volunteers Colonel) and General Theodore Roosevelt, Jr.

On a more shameful note. 20 soldiers were awarded this military honor for their actions at WOUNDED KNEE.

At the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, there is a very important brick wall. What is it and why is it there?
