I am standing on the site of a famous, now defunct racing facility in the Chicagoland area. The well-known radio ad started out......SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY. What is the name of the facility? Oswego DRAG STRIP. Masked Man was correct, it was US 30 dragstrip. If you google map its address: 7920 Clay Street, Hobart, IN you can still see the decaying asphalt that was once the track.

Interesting, definitely grown over now. I never went there, looks like it was laid out parallel to US 30. It is maybe hard to tell, but I am surprised how close together the two lanes were. Are new drag stips still laid out so close? I thought perhaps it was closed to make way for some other development, but it looks like it pretty much just shut down and a portion closer to the road used for some other buildings now. Buy it Dog, reopen that sucker. I think the sport got way too expensive for people to race. Back then there were way more hobbyist's and amateur enthusiasts. All those participants put people at the track. Friends, neighbors and co-workers come out to watch their buddys run. It's kind of weird how many had names for their cars or for the racers. (Chi-town hustler, Ramchargers, Big Daddy, Snake, Mongoose, etc.) When I was young, even the locals had names painted on their cars cruising town. (Screamin Demon, Second Chance, Quick Silver, and I am sure lots more if I tried hard to think of some more) That was the normal width back in the day. As a matter of fact Byron Dragway used to be wide enough to run 4 cars side by side. They have narrowed the tracks up over the years. I think the reasoning is the wider it was the more likelihood for a more perpendicular impact with wall. With a narrower track, the car would have more of a glancing blow if contact were to be made. I believe many people have tried to buy it and reopen it but with urban sprawl, opposition was too great. If I had unlimited resources, I think it would be cool buy it and restore it as a "field of dreams" so to speak. There is a new movie that is out, based on the Snake and Mongoose, which looks interesting. A lot of old video and cars from the early ear that have been restored. As for Streator street cars, add: Rolling Thunder, Hot Chocolate, DC Express, Orange Crush, Vegallusion, Night Moves, Mean Green, Grand Illusion, and Bounty Hunter. I know there is more, I can picture the cars but cant remember the names.

I think I remember that Mean Green one. GTO ran pretty good, but the young driver tried to scare his passengers on the way to IVCC seeing how many cars he could pass without pulling back into his own lane on US 51. I think he managed maybe 12 cars once. I vaguely remember that GTO, but actually Mean Green II was a Nova. Rumor had it at the time that it was a few more cars than 12. I do remember something from around that time about "ditch diving". I dont remember what that was all about though. Temptation was another one and I think there was a Nova named Innovation or something like that.

I played for the St Louis team. My career batting average was .000. Who am I? BTW Shelby was the correct answer to my question. I had no idea he was that old at Lemans. Amazing innovator/businessman! Michael Jordon.

We need to move on . Here is the answer. BRASILIABrasília is the capital of Brazil and the seat of government of the Federal District. The city is located along the Brazilian Highlands on the country's Central-West region. It was founded on April 21, 1960, to serve as the new national capital. I figured that with the Olympics coming to Brazil...................... .
